I saw this on ebay and was curious as to its placement in the exhaust system. Is this the same thing as a y-pipe? If so, I thought y-pipes had some bends in them. Is something like this worth a purchase?

This is not a y pipe. This pipe is intended to replace your cat converter. Not sure how much it really helps though.

 

I remember that some one was trying to sell something like this on the .org. However, I've never read about anyone with this installed.

 

There are a few folks here on the .org that have this. However, I get the impression that they don't like to talk about it much since their cars won't pass a smog inspection anymore. That's bad.

Don't get it. The gains are minimal and you pollute the environment. You exhaust will smell bad too. Get a hi-flow cat instead. The gains are still minimal but your car will at least be legit.
