Questions about AGX struts
Questions about AGX struts
Well, I've been riding in two different cars with these since December, and I've conjured up some questions...
Do you guys feel that with extended driving, including lots of twists and turns, the struts kind of get...tired? I've noticed distinctly that if I drive the car from a cold start, a cold day, or just for the first time in the day, they're very responsive and my turned are very sharp and quick with no lean. By responsive I mean that they compress very little, and are very stiff. Later on, after driving for a while, they seem kind of soft...I've noticed this on both of the Max's in my house with AGX. One has stock springs, the other, H&R. They both have similar chracteristics after long drives.
Also...
Do you know how long the AGXs will last? I would really hate to have to buy struts all over again.
Thanks everyone.

i actually somewhat agree, it seems that when i make a new adjustment, like the other week i changed the fronts from 2 to 3, it was simply amazing for the first amount of driving, then it didnt feel quite so tight. in a way, im guessing its my progress springs since they are on the softer side and probably wear the shock a little bit more, but right now im on 3 in the front and 4 in the rear and the ride quality is amazing, stock straight on, with no body roll on turns. they def do get softer rather quickly though, but not too soft, the just sorta lighten up and stay there. not a continue process of gettin crappy
I think it's more the driver. I mean a lot of things are perceived and relative. When I go on a long road trip, it seems tight when I start out, but then I feel less "sporty" and more "mushy" after my 380 leg of the trip. My mom will insist on driving the car (she doesn't want me driving for more than 3 hours) and she thinks the car is very tight. To me the passanger, it feels more comfortable in the passanger seat (acceleration seems smoother, cornering has less sway, and all around quieter)...but then I'm usually asleep in the passanger seat. I think the comfort comes when you can put your foot down, stretch out, have your hands free of the vibrating shift **** and steering wheel. One gripe of mine with the 5-speed Maxima is the vibration from the shifter. My sister's 90 Accord has no vibration whatsoever and that car is 7 years older than my Max.
Perhaps you are getting used to the feel after driving for a while, and therefore think the struts are softer, when they really are the same.
Compare it to this:
I put my CAI in about 4 months ago. It sounded great to me when I put it, and loud. I lvoed it. Nice growl and deep tone. After about 2 days, I thought the sound was gone. I road in my mother's Maxima, and realized how loud mine still was, even though I didn't think so.
Maybe this is what's happening to you. Who knows. Just a thought.

I've never noticed any decrease in performance from the AGX and I beat the crap out of them regularly.
Kevin - The vibration is just a characteristic of the rod linkage rather than a cable set-up. If you're cruising on the highway, why do you need to leave your hand on the shifter anyway?

Hmm, but I've tested my theory out very carefully. When I was attend college, there was a parking lot under a large complex, and it was just shaped as a square.
In the morning, or when I first got out the parking lot, I would take a turn and it would be very, very sharp and responsive. When I came back from the trip and did it again, it would feel a little bit more mushy.
This is just from personal experience. I mean, isn't it normal for struts to get softer as they heat up?

I have my agx for a couple of months now, they feel awesome! They are very responsive compared to the stocks. I think its a combinations of being use to the ride and struts but I haven't notice a difference yet.

The AGX are OK, but my car still handles like crap. Its just too heavy for it to handle well. Short of the RSTB and SFC's I have most the suspension mods and my car still doesnt handle.

interesting
This concerns me a bit as I'm going to be installing my kyb's next week. I wonder if a firmer spring like eibachs as opposed to H&R would make a difference.
Also this may confirm for me the fact that I would have rather had Bilsteins for my car instead of KYBs but they don't make bilsteins for maximas
