Pictures from my brake install

I installed my Stillen FSTB and Sway bar earlier in the week and yesterday I installed my Stillen/AP Racing Brakes.

The install took about 5 hours which included the front kit rear pads and SS Lines and ofcourse a full bleed of the system.

The kit install was easy but rear pads were a pain, I did not know I needed a special tool to turn the pistons back in. The dealer was closed so my friend made his own tool and was able to finish the job.

I still haven't used the brakes too hard because I am breaking them in, I'll have a chance to REALLY test them out as I am going to Shannonville tomorrow for a lapping day.

But to give you an idea, the pedal feel improved alot but some improvement can still be had. The fronts are squealing a little under light breaking, I hope it eventually goes away.

I went for a little run today and while I didn't jump on them I did use them to slow down quicker then I was. You can definately feel them "bite" harder and the amount of force I have to apply is so much less then before, can't wait until they are broken in.

I wouldn't reccomened these for someone just using them on the street, just not worth it. Go buy the SS Lines, Fluid, pads and X Drilled rotors. However if you plan on doing lapping days then these are a must to fully enjoy your car.

Pictures are here

What kind of tool is this? Are you talking about a C-clamp or something more sophisticated?

Your wheels are nice.

Not a C Clamp, tried that, the piston "turns" in so a special tool is needed from Nissan.

I actually used a long nose plier to turn the pistons. IMO, I don't think it's worth to invest in that special tool cause you won't be changing the rear brake pads as often as you change your engine oil.

kloogy, I don't think you can get a set of aftermarket X drilled rotors and pads for your 2K2 yet cause no one has made them. But for about $500 - $600, the 300ZX TT's calipers and rotors might be a good upgrade for your 2K2.

Are those just the Stillen Cross-Drilled Rotors from EatRiceZone.com? I'm very interested in putting those on my 2001, but I was wondering if they're really worth the $$$?

Well, my wheels will take 6 weeks to make, I hope we have some sort of brake upgrade by then. I was doing 120 the other day, and hit the brakes and that felt awful !

God no that is not just the stillen rotors. Did you not see the huge Stillen Caliper? These probably ran him well over 1800.

Nice, wish I would afford do these. But since you say it really dont help much on street driving, that makes me feel much better.

Did you use anti-squeal compound between the pad/hardware/caliper?
I made the mistake of forgetting this when I did mine, and the squeal only got worse. I disassembled them and applied the compound, and all is good. It comes in a little packet from you local autoparts store ($1).

Did you read the break-in procedure for the rotors? It's very specific about going easy on the rotors for about 300 Miles to properly break them in. The stillen rotors recomend this process you're supposed to 10-12 times (it's like a moderate stop from 30 MPH, and then no highway speed stops for a few hundred miles), or something. Go easy on your new setup!!

Pics look great! Nice Job

The gold wears off pretty quickly from the Stillen cross-drilled rotors. The only part that remains gold-colored is the center hub, but that's usually covered by brake dust and your rims mounting hub, so you can't really see it anyways.

I can't wait until we get the cross-drilled\slotted rotors in the group deal, but I'm curious what color will show once the nice silver finish wears off.
