I like the red/clears. And they definetely look hot on a maxima. But whenever I see them, the first thing that pops into my head is "Civic". That's why I could never buy them. Does anyone else have this problem?

I like them. I'll probably get them someday but I have mods I'd like to do first.

Even the Acura TLS has read clear tails....no resemblance to a civic at all.

i guess the only thing you can do really is leave the signal on longer before you actually make the lane change. and make sure they get a look at it. and dont switch lanes while cops are around haha

Geez, I guess I am. But it's more-so on the 97-99, with the red above the clear. And plus the @$$ end is sort of shaped like a civic. I do think they look better, I just think civic when I see them.

Regardless of whether or not it actually makes the rear end look like a civic (I think, far from it), I don't think you should be basing your opinion off that logic. If you really like the tails, then get them. If you don't like the way they look, then don't get them. The way I see it, you shouldn't let other peoples opinions, much less other peoples cars get in your way of decision making as far as external mods go. If you had to consult some kind of external mod police and make sure something doesn't look "ricey", or asked everyone "These are the rims/spoiler/etc I'm thinking of getting...what do you think?", then in the end, everyone would end up with the same external mods done, totally going against the whole point of external modification.

If you think they look hot on a maxima, then get 'em. And if anyone ever tells you your rear end reminds them of a civic....give them one of these: You know what kind of car you drive, it's not a civic.

(Then again, me implying how to make decision-making when externally modding your car is, in a way, the total opposite of the ideal I presented above, so.... make your own decision on how you want to take it/apply it )

Couldn't have said it better mayself. I hate it when people always yap about how that looks ricey, how they don't like this and that, saying how whoever buys altezzas is a loose. Who the hell cares what they think and they are retarted for thinking their opinion matters, do your own thing and your car will look good for you which is all that really matters. Just my 2 cents.

I think most, if not all, have bought them from DavidL7. . . He does group deals every now and then. What he does is takes a all clear tail apart and paints it to match the interior. Does a really good job as far as I'm concerned.

Holy crap, I don't any of my statements have ever been so misunderstood in my entire life. First, this has absolutely nothing to do with other peoples opinions. I honestly could care less what other people think about my car and what I do to it. Also, this is MY OWN personal opinion on the lights. And I wasn't knocking them or anyone who owns them, I was just simply stating that they remind me alot of civic tail lights, always have, always will. I never said anything about "ricey" or what not, just civic-like. I plan on making my car as unique as possible, and how I want it too look, and I'm just saying that it won't include red/clears. I'm sorry if that struck a nerve somewhere with someone.

So are you gonna get altezzas? Or leave the orange part as it is?

Red and Clears look ten times better than Altezzas. I wish I had Red and Clears. You can find Altezzas at almost any speed/accessory shop. You cannot find Red and Clears.

Why don't you just make the red clears... I did mine today, it cost me about 5 bucks, didn't even have to use a Dremel.

I read about several Max owners doing their own. The only problem is whenever I try to do things myself, I always manage to screw something up.

Yeah I have that problem too. The only place you can really screw up is cutting out the clear piece from the flourecent light cover. But if you screw up, just start over and keep doing it until you have a good piece.

As for pulling the lense away from the housing, just put it in the oven for 10 mins at 225 degrees, nothing will melt and it will separate easily.

stock 99 i30s

funny you say that you want to make your tails red/clear but afraid of making it look like a civic, because stock '99 i30s come with red/clear tails.
my 2 cents

i saw some guys were saying they were afraid to attempt to do this and a quoted price of over 200 for red/clear tails, i have two group deals going on right now, one is for the pre-cut lense for $25 so all u have to do is pop it in (this seems to be the most popular with all the orders i'm already getting) http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=133715 and also another group deal where u can send me the taillights and i can do everything for u http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=133349

Thanks,
Tom

Actually I never said I wanted to, infact, I don't want to. And I'm not sure what I am going to do, because I only like the altezza's painted, I may do that, or just leave them as they are.

Altezza's are about the ugliest thing you can put on a maxima. If you'd take those over red/clears just because it might remind you of a civic .. well then maybe you should just deal with being reminded of a civic.

thank you very much, i couldnt agree more, i dont even think most people realize they are called "altezzas" becuz they come from the lexus altezza in japan, its like how people call nitrous "nos" and tissues "kleenex".

if the red/clears on the Max remind you of a max... what do the regular tails remind you of?

I think that all clear tail would look better, but it is illegal in Ca. So I have to settle for the red/clear tail, but I still think that it would look better. If you have such a problem with it looking "rice-y" then DON'T GET THEM. I plan on getting my clear red/clear tail soon on my 99. Are you going to call my MAXIMA a rice rocket?
