Some Audio Questions

Hey guys sorry about the Newibish question, but I have two 12" MTX Thunder 8000, they have an RMS of 400 Watts and a peak of 800. Now this guy wants to sell me an amp that is a two channel 1000 watt amp. I'm thinking that this will blow my subs. I expressed my concerns, but he said that the amp won't blow my subs. Is he correct?

One more thing, will a .5 farad cap work for my 1994 max, or do I need the full farad. Based off of the power of a 760 watt amp.
Thanks for the help
Chris

Re: Some Audio Questions

I don't have any experience with MTX, but if you keep the gains on the amp low then you shouldn't have a problem with that amount of power. The general rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000 watts as far as caps go. 1/2 farad would help but you probably want to get a full farad if you can.

Blow your subs, Yeah right 1000 watts is peak power not continous. Most speakers are blow by the distortion factor not from to much power look at the specs on the amp (THD)
