Why is my trap speed so freakin low

I've noticed that my trap speed is extremely slow compared to alot of others here. The track I race at is in the mid atlantic 330 feet above sea level. I havent raced in the cooler weather in my current configuration, but I've never trapped faster then 93.xx mph. This is horrible, as my mom's automatic Toyota Camry v6 runs 93 mph. My best time (with full exhaust) was a 14.76x. I hit a 14.6 last season with an open exhaust and I blew the factory clutch in the process, but that was only at 92 mph.

I even used the temperture correction thingy and it processed my 15.0 @92 mph in 90 degree heat and 95 percent humidity with 29 barometer to a estimated 13.9 @ 95 mph in 40 degrees, 10 humidity and 32 barometer.

My ET is not bad though, but the MPH is what troubles me. I consider myself fairly quick at shifting. I dont miss gears much at all.

The only handicaps I can think of is my stereo. Probaly about 100 pounds, but I had my car weighed and it was 3200 pounds even WITH the stereo in it. But I'm also a lightweight person. At 125 pounds, my sport bike really likes me. Another handicap may be the Quaife differential. It is a heavy unit, much heavier then stock. I am so kicking myself I did not weigh the thing. If this is the case perhaps a lightened flywheel and UDP will help.

My spark plugs are tight and replaced at 60K with the OEM ones. My Y pipe is now in good functioning order and I assume it to be unrestricted. My 60 foots are usually in the 2.2x range. I do not have a knock sensor code and it passed the resistance test. Theres something sapping my power still. Any ideas?

A 100-lb stereo, a 25-lb trailer hitch, and a Quafie (~20lbs more than stock on the SVT Contours) will take a toll in performance. Most 5 speed 4th gens with an intake/y-pipe/catback are getting 94-95mph traps. I'd figure you're loosing about 1-2mph with the added weight. I really doubt there is anything wrong with your Maxima.

Your Mom's Camry must be a rarity because the auto V6s seem to struggle to break 88mph. With 93mph traps, I would assume your Mom's Camry would have to be making about 240hp which isn't likely. What is likely is that the trap speed calculator got screwed (ie a piece of debris crossed the beam before the car therefore giving a incorrect reading). Have you ran the Camry multiple times or only once? What were the other runs?

I find that tire pressure and size has a lot to do with my trap speeds. If I drop the pressure too far down, I get great 60' times and low traps. If I raise the pressure to high I get crappy 60' times and high traps. I also found that I had higher trap speeds with 17" wheels/tires, but much slower 60' times and ET's.

OK I screwed up the MPH, hehe but the times were correct. The MPH was at 90.xx mph, not 92 and not 93. Anyway heres the slip from that night. http://members.aol.com/ericdwong/images/camryslip.jpg

Yes I've raced that car numerous times, but it was over 2 years ago. I neglected to mention that when I raced her car, it was in the dead of winter (early march) when I was on spring break. That car is absolutely stock, with 1/2 tank of fuel and spare tire (full sized) removed. the Temperature being 30 degrees outside, with about 50% humidity. Of course my recent runs in the max have been at 70-90 degree weather, with over 60%-95% humidity. The best time of that car was 15.443 @ 90.16 mph with a horrible 2.4 60 foot. However, that car consistenly runs in the 90 MPH range, in the 15.5's. If I ever get another chance I'll run her car again, but I'll admit its not as much fun as the maxima.

Anyway the Quaife is a rather large mass. I took off the trailer hitch since my trip to the ocean when I was towing my motorcycle was over. However, the stereo I consider an integral part of the car. I'm gonna post another thread to see if anybody knows how much it weighs.

Good God, you East coast people can kiss my butt. Look at those baro pressures!!!!!!!!! 31.7X pressures are a HUGE advantage. It's almost like running 2 psi of boost...seriously. I constantly hear of incredible ETs and mphs of cars and I look at the slip and the car was run in Northeast, in the winter, and with some insanely high baro pressures (31.XX-32.XX). It's pretty much like running 3000'BELOW SEA LEVEL. What's this mean? Stop comparing your Maximas performance to you Mom's Camry. You ran that car under incredible conditions therefore it will run incredible times. I corrected my 14.6@98 to your conditions and it says would have run a 14.1@101mph. See what I'm saying. You Northeast guys are very lucky in that your tracks stay open almost all year long. Here in the Midwest, you'll be lucky to find a track that will open unless it's 50 and sunny. I'd kill to run in 30 degree weather.

I have not had the opportunity to run my car in the dead of winter yet. Before the track closed for the season, my transmission blew up. And then I didnt run well at all once it opened back up again. This was cause of my damn Y pipe flex and then a loose spark plug. But maybe one day when its cold as ***** out, I'll gut the car (never done this) and loose the stereo (at least 60 pounds of woofer in the trunk).
