URGENT: Need info on '99 Maxima

Dear Friends,

A friend of mine is selling me '99 Maxima - automatic, 29,500 miles. Could someone please share therir experience with a '99 Maxima. I intend to keep my next car (which could be this one) for a long time. What are the good and bad features? Any concern about safety, maintenence, performence etc.?

I heard that there is some issue with the cabin (wind and road) noise. Is this true?

I will be really greatful if someone could help me out with this situation as I don't have any experience with Nissans.

Thanks for your time and help.

I do see one problem, it's automatic. You will find alot of guys doing 5spd swaps. It may be worth it to find a maxima with a 5spd.

2 reasons: fact, 5spd's are quicker.
opinion, alot of fun

You can't go wrong with any Max.

A low milage one, if the price is right, is a good decision.

(even better if it were a 5-speed)

great cars i got a 99 se-l 91,000 miles on it and still running strong. i would suggest a 5 spd.. but if you are more into automatic and want better performance there are place that can tweak you valve body to make the automtics shift faster.

go for it! Max's are a lot of fun. I think the most common problems you will find usually stem from people modifying their cars, and not being aware that mods tend to cause more...noises.

99SE...

By 1999 Nissan got the bugs out...it was the last of the 4thGen.

I was tempted at the time to by the 2000MAX but I would never by a car on it's first year of production...bugs/recalls/rattles etc.

I'm glad that I chose the 99. It has been so reliable, I can't stand car problems. Easy to MOD and work on without having to go to the STEALERSHIP...This ORG is the best "use SEARCH" to save you literally hundreds to thousands of dollars on information.(simple interval/oil/fuel filter changes etc.)

Get the 1999 Maxima Auto or 5sp...you can't go wrong...enjoy the ride!
