yup thats an easy one cadalacs have to be one of the most unreliable cars made my friend is a tech at a cadalac dealer and he has told me storys about some of the **** that he has replaced alot of which was on cadys that are still under warrenty its really sad

 

Sell both of them and just buy a VE 5-speed to go along with your SUV.

Also, I would get a new Pathfinder before one of those Mountaineers. 270 hp out of a smooth 6 cyl vs. 239 out of a V8 and better gas mileage (just barely). Base invoice on the V8 Mountaineer = $34k. Base invoice on the Pathy SE Off Road 4x4 = $28k.

 

I agree with Red92MaxSE.

But cars are individuals, so it is understandable that you are attatched to both of these "woman" specifically.

If one must go, then you have to think.. Do I wanna be "big pimpen in the caddy" or "havin some spirited driving with my four door sports car."

In the end, it all comes down to who you would rather like to spend the rest of your life with.

The max is cheaper to maintain most likely.
The caddy has better parts availability including stuff like climate control heads, and all sorts of little odds and ends.
The choice ultimately is yours.
I'd probably keep the caddy, and I sure as **** wouldn't get a mountaineer uke:

i personally wouldn't touch a caddy with a 10 mile pole along with most domestics. they can't even get their luxury division cars to last worth a damn.

only downside to the maxima really is stupid pos trannies (cough made by borg warner cough). that'd probably be the only thing that would keep most people from buying/keeping/whatevering one.

in the end, its up to what you like most.

 

Sorry, but I am going to have to disagree with the majority of the posts. Cadillac is the only domestic car I would own. My dad has had 2 of them, an '84 Seville which required some attention but was still a good car, and now a '96 Eldorado with 96k on it. The Eldorado is one amazing car for a domestic. Its only left him stranded once from a dead battery. Driving on the road feels like a new car with the suspension set up. Handling is another story though. If you do the required maint. on these cars, they will treat you right. I believe the only things my dad has done to his Eldorado was replace the hoses/belts and an a/c compressor.

The max is more fun and smaller. The Deville is larger, going to consume more fuel and depreciate alot more since its domestic. If you plan on transporting alot of people, then perhpas the Cadillac is the answer. The choice is yours but Cadillac is still a good car as well as the Max.

They no longer make the supercharged Xterra. They put the same 4.0L VQ in the new Xterra as is in the new Pathfinder.

The SC Xterra is 210 hp, but it is still a VG, where it has a timing belt instead of a chain. The older one (pre-2005) was built on the Frontier chassis and rides like a truck -- rough. It probably isn't going to be something a guy looking to buy a luxury Mountaineer would move into.

I bought an '86 Sedan DeVille for this winters beater. It's got a V8, no power but it starts when its 0 degrees on the first crank. At 14.5 MPG, its no econo car, but it holds the road pretty good.

If I had to do it again, I would. The $900 I spent on it has been worth every penny so far.

 

I second the benefit of owning a winter POS. I bought a 87 'yota tercel wagon 4x4 in dec. Great for getting me around in the snow while I start adding parts to my Max!
