Secondary intake air scoop makes 95 maxima faster
I went to pick n pull yesterday and got a secondary air intake scoop that goes under the engine and sucks air through the front bumper and lets it travel under the engine to the top. Nissan took the secondary air intake away from the 96-99 models.
this is the original cover
This is where the air flow goes to the engine.

Have you thought about what would happen if you drove
through a flooded intersection at speed with an air (and water) intake mounted that low?

[QUOTE=The Wizard;9121202]I thought all 95-99 Maximas have the same secondary intake scoop that goes to where the hood meets the front bumper cover? [/QU
Apparently not; Only the 95 Maxima's had it but for some reason they stopped putting them on the 96-99 maxima. Id rather have this air scoop to get more air flow to the engine. Since installing the air scoop, it seems to have more of a take off and better reving than before and it makes a very noticeable difference. I have been driving it for two days straight and it runs better thanks to the extra air flow. Also it was only 5.00 at Pick N Pull.

There no way for water to make its way to the engine at all becuase the water would pour out to the ground the way nissan has it setup. They have considered all these options plus the rain when they designed it.

I lost a car because of hydro lock.
my 73 Volvo had an intake like that . I did drive through a flooded intersection, the engine inhaled water.

It's not the casual rain or puddle that's an issue... it's when you find yourself in a foot deep puddle that you thought was a couple inches and the waves are crashing over the bow of your car as you go through, even slowly. The engine is sucking in air hard and it will pull the water in the right conditions. Rare, but an engine killer.
Just watch out for deep puddles.

So not true. Every Maxima that I've bought (5spd or auto) has had the secondary air scoop.
I'd love to see a picture of your engine bay before and after this mod....something isn't adding up here.

Early 95's production date of 94 had difference in the air intake scoops more parts.kinda looks like they brought back the design on the 5th gen. Heres some pics, i dont see how this introduces more air to the engine? theres no scoop on the back leading to the air intake on the top. if anything, I can see it make more air flow to the engine compartment for cooling purpose. UPDATE more air is directed to the front center to the TRANSMISSION SPECIFICALLY. This came off an automatic the extension will not fit on the 5speed. I see it as a good mod if you want to call it that, more direct air to cool down the tranny.

This pipe goes to the resonator box, not the scoop you put on.
How did you attach the cooling scoop to the intake piping? That is my question.

Dave H Im thinking the same thing. The only way i can see introducing more air from that scoop is to attach some type of rubber pipe tubing from the existing hole on the 95 airbox. Here is some pics. Do you see where the curved rubber tube is, Id remove that and fab something leading down to that scoop.

Maybe he didn't even hook anything up? Just put the scoop on and thought it was going somewhere in the intake.
The stock intake is sufficient for this engine with bolt ons. But this could be another source of cold air along with the one above the radiator.
We'll see if he comments.

My 98 had that too. But really in the end, it got ripped the hell out of there and put a CAI in.

Hey guys. All I really did was just put that intake on the car and assumed that the air goes to the top of the engine where the stock and primary intake would get more air to send to the engine since the hood ofthe car was kind of blocking and restricting air flow. The secondary intake that I installed sucks air and then just simply directs to the engine compartment with the way its curved.
