I was doing a tire rotation and noticed how exposed the fuel filler neck assembly and EVAP lines are in the wheel well. There's no covering to help protect from the elements, like in my Hondas. This is probably why in the winter, I have to remove a layer of crud from underneath the gas cap and fuel door before filling up.
There should be a plastic cover over the lines. One of my cars has one and the other is missing so they may fail over time. I keep meaning to find one in the U-Pullit but I keep forgetting.

I'm not sure I've ever seen one (and I've seen quite a few maxis lol).
For some reason it's not something that really stands out. I've owned both these cars since 04 and just noticed the difference a few years ago.
The 1st pic is my 00.
The 2nd is my 02 with it missing.
Forgive the crappy shots taken through the gap.
I've had my 2001 i30 since new, and there has NEVER been a cover there.
Interesting, Does it have the tabs like in my second pic?
I wonder if it's something they stopped doing after 00. I've had my 02 since 04 but never really noticed it until recently. It was well kept and dealer maintained before I got it and I've never taken it off. It may well have left the factory like that.
Mine is exposed as well. I'm having some serious issues getting my tank to fill recently and I've checked those lines, and so far in 200k miles there is zero damage to them so it doesn't seem like a massive concern, IMO.

You're down south, though. Road salt is a real beeyoch.
What I concluded is that a minor collision knocked the thing out .
I'm not seeing a part # for it.
That would make a good one liner slam. "Your car got hit so hard the part numbers were deleted."
Mine has never had a collision. There are no wear marks to show that one was ever there either. It does make sense to discontinue the part if it was causing corrosion problems. There probably wouldn't be a part# if that happened. It makes sense since the salt and crap that got behind it would never get rinsed out.
You can see from the pics that mine is still near perfect after 220,000 miles without one. If I were worried about corrosion I'd consider pulling the one out of my 00 at least to check it.
