Hearing alot of my friends are having a hard time starting up their car because of the cold weather up here. Any ideas to prevent this from happening?

keep the battery in good shape, park it in a garage, make sure the plugs are not fouled, I read somewhere you shouldn't park a car in this kind of weather for any extended periods unless it has more than 1/2 tank (not sure why, might be an old "dad fable")

Yours friends could buy a battery warmer or get an Optima Red Top.

Any buildup on condensation will turn into ice.. and you sure dont want that in your fuel lines

One word, "engine block heater". Well 3 words. Was -4 F. at my house in NY this am.

Anyone know a good mod on the org for adding one? (wish I could search) OEM preferably but aftermarket would be too.

The problem with lots of air in the tank is that air contain water. When that air and the tank itself become 2 different temps due to changes in weather the result is condensation. Not a big deal in summer, but in winter that could mean ice in your lines.

Tell your friend to try a bottle of dry gas for the gas tank. Run the car everyday for a few minutes especially when you don't drive it. Make sure the battery is in good shape and no corrosion on the contacts. The cold kills the battery and make it has less effective with the cold cranking power. Hope the infos from others and here helps your friends out.

turn off AC and any 12V devices at start up so your alternator won't overwork.

Buy some gasline antifreeze (aka methyl hydrate), dump it in the tank and you won't have frozen gas lines.

the hamsters are frozen or very very cold poor little guys.

Check the battery voltage, if it's fine, I recommend upgrading to a battery with more CCA's (cold cranking amps).

start the car at least once every 24 hours and let it warm up. Give it a good rev before turning off the car to quickly rejuvy the battery.
