Better have your injectors tested to make sure they can handle the additional fuel pressure you're going to need at high rpm. Or just get bigger injectors ala Matt and a few others.

unlike 4th gen, there are no bigger injectors for 5th gens :( but 5th gen injectors have a higher volume than that of 4th gen.

Danny: if you plan to use all 13psi from the 2.87. Do a compression test before you drop in that monster. or at least check spark plug condition. you are using 1 step colder, eh?

you've already got EGT, FP gauges...those will be enough for monitoring.

I think I should be ok. I have about <50K on my motor and like <45K on my tranny. I've been running 1 step colder with teh 3.33" no pinging or knocking whatsoever.. You should I should drop to 2-Step? What are you using with you 2.87" setup? How's she running? :)

max'n out May 1, 2003 10:37 AM

ONe thing to say if you are going to the 2.87 I'd get an intercooler, thats what I'm running.

PCGuRu2K May 1, 2003 12:32 PM

I found most of the info that I needed.. But wasn't sure about the plugs. Ppl say to use 2-step cold plugs and decrease the gap to .005.. Anything else I'm missing?

I changed to 1-step about 3000 miles ago. I dont think you will need 2 step.

my 2.87? :nervous: I am not using the whole 13psi of 2.87. I have it maxed at 10psi and I never tried to tighten the BOV. The car is running good. :)

You didn't tighten the bov on purpose to release the boost more? :)

I say 1 step colder to be sure to fully ignite the fuel, my 2 steps got really fouled up. Gap them to .034

yup...to loose some boost. I dont think my car is ready for 13psi (esp my tranny) hehehehe

So with the 2.87" pulley you recomending that I run 1 Step Cold plugs and gapped to .034?

Yes, thats where to start. Gap them .004 less for every 50whp, acuall result will vary when you hit the dyno, but thats where to start. .034 comes from a solid dyno based at 290. You can figure on at least having that and likely to have more, and from there you can make the adjustment.

No he meant I really wanted to walk the guy.. I raced a friends 350Z the other day. All he had pretty much was just an injen intake. We raced from a role at about 40-120.. It was neck and neck the whole way. I guess after I switch to 2.87" I should be able to pull at least a few cars :) My car weighs about 350lbs more then him so that's why it was pretty even matched

2.87 will yield about another 4 psi over the 3.33. that's 40 whp
his 350z is manual also?

yup...you loose it, you release the pressure faster.

GoldenGlory May 2, 2003 01:31 PM

so by loosen it ..i will increase boost?

ugh..

i wanna reduce for now till i get my 5 speed in

You losten it it will begin to vent the boost, so you get less, course you could end up stalling the engine...try not getting on it.

If you loosen your bov you will have rough idle and will stall out sometimes..

:goofy:

tring to show off heh

If you want to be special.. have someone custom fabricate a 2.00" supercharger pulley for you. Then we'll all get our kneepads and goggles out of the closet and will call you our GOD!

Sadly I doubt the S/C would last long, much less handle that very well :)

What ever happened here... Did you go with the 2.87??? Was there a huge difference on the "butt dyno" to make it worth it? Anyone can answer this one, just doing a little research.

from a 3.33, yes. :) not only you get a lot of highend, but at low end, you get to 0psi a lot faster than a 3.33, around 2000 rpm.
