I'm thinking about getting a later model 4th gen and transfering what I can...

My '96 has 135,000 miles on it. I was thinking of getting a '98 or '99 with lower miles and transfering what I can. What do I need to know? As far as cosmetics I know I'll loose a few things (ex. shaved antenna, shaved trunk keyhole, etc.) but I'm mainly asking about the Supercharger. What are things I need to consider? For instance, won't I need a different SC mounting plate if I get a '99? Anything else I need to be concerned with? Thanks guys.

Why you want to do that? Would be a waste if you ask me. Unless you are going to get a 5spd one then I can understand. If you are going to get 5spd 97-99 Maxima, then I say go for it. It would much easier to do that then to do a conversion. If you are going to get another auto but a 97-99 one, I say save your money.

I say swap transmissions and replace your long block if it fails...you know you'll take a big hit $$ wise if you get a new Maxima.

Keep it. You think that is a lot of miles? I have a littler over 171,000 and I am just now getting "real" boost........

I don't care about the money. Besides I want a commuter car anyway so now I'll have my '96 for that. I just want to know what I need to be aware of when transfering. And yes Mike, it will be another auto. :)

Buy my car as is an ddont sweat the small stuff...it is already SC'd and has a few toys to boot.

check my pricing thread in the 4th Gen board for more info...and let me know if I can help.

Josh, I went from a 97 to a 99, so things may be a little different.

First, Stillen sells a different SC kit for 99's. Nobody is really 100% sure of why its different, but stillen claims that its the SC mounting bracket. So, for that reason alone I'd stick with a 98.

Also, if you get a 98 you shouldn't have any Fed VS Cali spec problems. My 97 was fed spec, as is my 99, so I had no problems moving the aftermarket exhaust from one car to another. Any suspension stuff is the same for any 4th gen.

IIRC 96's have a different location for the rear O2 sensor, so you may or may not have to deal with that.

Thanks Eric. I'll keep that in mind. As long as the '98s have outside temperature display, I'm in (I know, I'm weird).

I'm also considering an M3 and using the '96 Max. as a commuter. The last year they made 4 door autos was '98.

I'll say! My 99 SE has it, and I've been in 97 SE's and I don't think they do. Dunno about 98's.

You'd get an auto M3? :rotz:
