WTK Why V2 from 97-98 doesn't fit 99
Why wont an SC from a 97-98 fit a 99?
|
I can tell you this much, I have a kit for 99-2001 and it bolted right up to the 98 spare engine I have in my garage. In a about 8 weeks this 5th gen kit will be bolted up to my 95 daily driver :D

I think the 99 and newer kits will work with the older cars, but not vice versa.
I think the 99 bracket is different in that it stands farther away from the block to clear a redesigned timing cover. I've never seen both, but I thought I read this somewhere on here before. |

I have no idea, but they changed all kinds of other stuff so it wouldn't surprise me. I thought that is why the bracket is different. I have a 99 and will compare mine with my Dads 97 and see if I can find any differences.

Here's something I dug up that SighMax Discovered.
I had the 98 bracket installed on my car originally, but because the way it was mounted to to timing chain cover, it ended up cracking the lower part of the cover and started leaking oil. The locations for the bolts and the size were the same but Nissan made the base where the bolt goes in narrower on 99. Stillen had to refabricate the bracket to make that part narrower. The contact point on the bracket to the timing chain cover on the '99s are narrower than the previous years. If you use the previous year's bracket on 99, you may crack the t-c cover and it will start leaking oil. I don't believe there are any other major differences including all the contact points. Therefor, you should be able to use the 99 bracket on the previous year engine. You can probably use non-99 bracket, but the stress caused by the contact point will eventually crack the timing chain cover. |

I am pretty hardheaded, I am still going to bolt that 99-2001 kit to my 95 daily driver. |

I may buy the next SC kit for sale to see if I can make it fit on a 99. All one would need to do is taper down the mounting points so they don't put pressure on the timming cover. Or maybe change out the cover with one from a 97 or 98. |

I hope not :nervous: but if it bolts up as long as all my pullies align I should be fine. |
