690hp VQ30 in Top Secret's 350z

OK, i know some of you guys read this in Super Street's June issue, but i figured i would just let those who didn't read it know about it. If this has been posted about, then sorry for the repost, but i didn't ever see it, and i check in here almost everyday for new info.

Here's a quote from the article:

"The engine has been given a significant overhaul, which allows it to produce the afforementioned 700ps at an impressive 8000rpm; that's a hair over 690hp for those of you not familiar with the metric system...Top Secret's 350z isn't powered by the VQ35, it's powered by the VQ30 out of the Nissan Gloria (an Infiniti M45 in differnt JDM trim)...the Obvious first step was to pop off the heads. A set of JUN forged rods and pistons were installed to handle the extreme combustion. Then, a set of port matched Top Secret SPL heads were equipped to ensure proper airflow and a clean combustion cycle."

I had read this article a couple times, but i somehow missed that part until now. now i know that the VQ30 in the gloria is the infamous de-t version, but i was really rather impressed at the numbers they were able to get out of it. Top Secret also made a tubular intake manifold as well for the 350z, althogh they don't mention it in the article. I know that they spent a hell of alot of money on it, but hey, it's a good example of what kind of power that can be attained...prolly to much for a FWD car, but they build 700hp civics :007:

Wow thats crazy. Good to see a built up VQ out there with massive power. It goes to show that even the VQ is capable of insane power when built up. Very true what you say though, they make 700 HP civics.. but remember our FWD drivetrain sucks. They have aftermarket trannies... we have guys blowing 5 speeds with basic bolt ons... imagine the carnage a VQ like that would create :)

And, if you look into the 3rd gen world, we have guys blowing trannies with stock power... I can't handle how crappy our trannies are. I wish Nissan would have just made them so we wouldn't have to deal with this bull****.

We have NA maximas breaking 5 speeds because the morons dont know how to drive! Thats the bottom line. Then you have the very fast NA guys who have not broke a 5 speed tranny.

Sh!t I dont know, you tell me. I was not talking about auto trannies. I was on the 5 speed subject. I dont know nothing about auto trannies and dont care to know anything about them. I bought an auto maxima and the sh!t shot the axle out:confused:. Dont know how that happened. My dad was driving it and he drives pretty slow.

I just wish we could find out *MORE* info from TopSecret on if these parts are "one offs" or if they could be purchased.

Not like I COULD afford TS prices, but some on here might.:)

VQ30 in the gloria is RWD so it's not fair comparing our 5spd trans to the one in japan. I'm sure they have many RWD 5spds there that can handle much more power than us.

MAXimumHP May 25, 2004 10:35 AM

Do they sleeve the block or can the stock block handle that kind of power?

Mad-MAX_SE May 25, 2004 10:56 AM

it didn't say, but since it's the de-t version i dunno if they had too, but then again TS spares no exspenses.

Very true... with all that HP I'd invest in some kind of upgrade to my tranny though. Regardless if the turbo guys are putting down nearly that much HP, I still wouldnt trust it for daily use.

All these beefy 350's and no VQ35's in em. There was an RB26DETT being built a while ago as well that I saw. I wonder how much a turbo'd VQ35 with a built block could put out.

My auto dynoed ~270fwhp and is still on the same tranny I bought it with, with roughly 110k miles on it. Nearly 20k of that boosted. Not *all* the auto's fall apart the instant you add some power to em .. (just most of them :goofy: )

Hell -- look at Jime. :p
