Why my car didn't pass emissions...HELP...

15 MPH Test: Passed the CO barely..3 more points, I would of failed..
My NOx levels were high as crap..double the amount of the legal level...

25 MPH test: Failed all three..again, my CO level failed..It was 2 points passed the legal level..My NOx levels were same results, double the amount..

I have a turbo VE..92 Maxima SE..
Mods are Walbro High flow pump, Cartech FMU, 2 step colder copper ngk plugs, high flow catalytic convertor3 inch exhaust..everything else is stock like injectors, etc...

I checked my egr valve to see if its working and it is..I read that it helps bring your NOx levels down..I want to say my Catalytic convertor is failing but I just go the car down last december....its only been 7 months with the turbo kit..

Any help will be appreciated.
thanks
Maxtuned...

Perhaps the car isn't tuned? The Walbro and FMU will both make your car run on the rich side. Emissions would be high even with a functional cat.

oh ok....

One question though, I thought the FMU kicks in only when in boost.?????
And my thought is even with my walbro fuel pump, I still have the stock injectors, so wouldnt the injectors be delivering the same amount of fuel even if my car was not turbo'd but with the walbro fuel pump??

unless you have an ajustable FPR your FP will be higher with the walbro so your stock injectors will be delivering more fuel than stock

yeah..I was thinking about that also..would a fuel pressure regulator solve my problem if I brought down the fuel pressure to stock level which is around 35-40 psi right???

subs1000w Sep 3, 2004 09:00 PM

whats fuel pressure at now at idle and wot

MaXtUneD Sep 4, 2004 04:22 AM

idle is around 48-50 psi..somewhere around there..dont know at WOT because the gauge is in the engine bay...but i bet its high though....

subs1000w Sep 4, 2004 08:51 AM

to check WOT FP just unplug the vacum hose going to the FPR

regardless of wot fp thats really high for idle i could definitly see that affecting emissions

lFirst thing you should do is change out your high flow cat. They suck at reducing emissions.

MaXtUneD Sep 5, 2004 05:57 AM

so...what FPR should I get????
also, does the gauge have to read 0-100psi??

MaXtUneD Sep 5, 2004 09:06 AM

come on guys..i need your help

stephenlc Sep 5, 2004 09:24 AM
