Welding Flange on 3"

I recieved my 3" pipe and my Flange from Vortech, but im confused on what to tell the welder. All I have is a flange with no lead on it to weld to, so will I have to get a peice of stock the size of the hole, and run it from the charge pipe, to the welded on flange ?? I cant think of any other way to do it...you would think vortech would put alittle leed on it to help you out but they didnt...and I checked on ebay and there are none on there...

any help is appriciated

If you're trying to do what I think you are, then you're trying to weld a Vortech BOV flange to the intake pipe, correct? If so, then you have the right idea. Find a piece of pipe that will fit the BOV flange, then weld it. Next, find a sutiable postion for the flange on the intake pipe, cut a hole, radius notch the flange pipe, then weld.

The welder is going to have to take some pipe that is about the same diameter as the hole in the flange, weld the flange to it, and then weld that sub-assembly to the 3" intake pipe. The welder will know what to do, but for your curiosity's sake that involves mitering the small pipe so that it has a curved mating surface that the welder can fit against the 3" pipe.

so if the other guy is right...you're looking to weld a BOV flange to a straight section of pipe...then measure out the ID of the hole of the flange. get a very short piece of piping that's the same size.

"fish mouth" one end of the small pipe so it will fit flush with the curve of the 3" pipe. line it up so that it's as close as possible to the curve of the 3". scribe/mark the location of where you want the hole to go. test fit by stacking the BOV and the flange on top of the small section and make sure there's clearance and not hitting anything...also note direction of flange and where the BOV is clocked.

scribe/mark a line to where you want the flange to be clocked in relation to the short tube. mark the center of the hole u drew on the 3" pipe and use a hole saw to cut it out. deburr as necessary. bring it to the welder and let him know what you need welded and what lines to match it up to.

Goodluck with it Matt. Do you have the stock kit piping? I'd like to buy it if you'd like to sell it.

I need to get the same type of work done. Let me know how much the welder charged you so I don't get ripped off.
