Squeeling at startup with loss of power steering?
Hey guys,
My maxima has a supercharger and when i start it sometimes it will squeel for awhile and i will loose my power steering for say 30secs. Does this have anything to do with the belt on the supercharger and should i have it replaced? Flame on if needed. |
You may need to tighten it. Last winter, mine squealed like that. Jack the car up and see of you can twist it more than 180 degrees on the segement that is next to the oil pan. If so, tighten it up.

Power Steering belt is separate from the main (SC) belt... it's at the back by the firewall... get a manual.

You have air in the Power Steering lines. Jack the front of the car up, remove the PS fluid resivor lid and top off. Turn the wheel lock to lock very slowly 10 or so times with the moror off. Then crank it up and repeat with the motor running. That should take care of it.

ok ill try that this week

Power steering belt is too loose. Tighten the PS belt up. Has nothing to do with the SC belt. Could be the pump too I suppose but the belt is the usual suspect.

you probably just need to replace your belts... i know my belts are goin and they squeal a little, and until they grab my rpm's are low, like 1000rpm at cold start.
