Stillen S/C ---> Vortech S/C

It's been way too long since I've been on this board. Figured I'd post a little thread to share what I've been up to with the car...

Old Stillen S/C Setup. Started off as Stage II in 9/06, then went Stage IV in 2/07. Great low-end, decent midrange, and then died in the upper rpms. Dynotuned the Split Second box w/R4 software, but just couldn't get it where I wanted it. Sounded amazing at WOT though, and silent at idle.

New Vortech S/C setup as of 8/07. Currently running a 3.12 pulley, RC 440's, Walbro 255, NGK 1-step colder Iridiums, TurboXS UTEC & Wideband Tuner. Will be going to 2.87 pulley and RC 550's (or 650's) in the near future. Makes that all-too-familiar V2 sound at idle, whistles nonstop when you let off the throttle, but the bypass valve does sound cool when you shift quickly. Just bought a cheap laptop to do some street tuning.

Is the Stillen RWDVQ35 unit an Eaton?

HotshotVQ35 09-17-2007 03:24 PM

just a question, why a SC and not a turbo? are the associated costs that much less to run a SC?

Yes, the Stillen uses an Eaton M62. Extremely inefficient.

Funds were one of the main reasons. You add up a more expensive TT kit, then factor in supporting mods like building the block, return fuel system, additional coolers, standalone EMS, etc...you're looking at 2-3x what I spent.

With my planned future upgrades, and even my current upgrades, I'll be fairly close to any ST & TT setup running low boost on a stock block. A supercharger has much less torque than a turbo setup, so it should be more reliable. Boost builds with the rpm's, so the linear power delivery is much more predictable, and easier on your drivetrain. No lag is also nice...

i figured it was the cost, any dyno #'s?

very nice. the centerfugial is a better choice, specially since you can have a BOV too ;)

did you custom make the plate? or stillen makes it ?

ps, u need a bigger filter, that thing is too tiny.

The plate comes with the kit directly from Vortech. It's not a blowoff valve...it's a bypass valve. Very similar, but not exactly the same thing...

VIP Maxima 09-17-2007 09:17 PM

you can use a blow off valve and vent it to the atmosphere. i know what a bypass valve is.

i didnt know vortech made complete kits for g35, good to know

Triple8Sol 09-17-2007 09:59 PM

They do. This particular one is actually a 350Z kit (I bought it used) but we didn't have any problems getting it in...
