Car won't rev over 2000rpms

Car starts just fine but when I give it gas it is responsive but its 2000rpms and its like its got a rev limiter? I double checked everything is plugged in correctly and all vaccum lines. Looked at SAFCII and knock sensor was at 0 at idle. Put a timing light on the car and it won't show the marks. Have to advance the gun to 65 before the marks are on the pointer. Car is in time and idles smooth but a little high 1200rpms or so. Any Ideas what needs changed. I believe its just needs tuned right.

How do you know the motor is still in time?

I guess I can try it weird it just all of a sudden went out. I'll also double check on my wiring for the safcII to it.
well lets see when put new motor in replaced timing belt. Have #1 at top dead center and the red marks all line up on the cams and the rotor on the dizzy pointing straight at #1 thats how I know.

The timing light seems to disagree with you though...

In any case, per the VG section of the FSM, an improper MAF signal for the driving condition will result in a rev-limit @ 2000 RPM like was already mentioned.

Don't got a FSM but thanks for that but just to bad I sold my extra MAF sensor! Sounds like the problem.

I just had the same exact thing with a 2001 Maxima. Just replaced the MAF and it worked perfect. Check the signal and go from there and I say 99% its the MAF.

Just tried a different MAF of another running car and it didn't work still like its got a rev limiter at 2000prms.

Fix timing first...

I have not had any time to work on my car because of work but was wondering today if possibly the crank angle sensor could cause something like this I believe I remember it was in the dizzy itself. Correct me if im wrong.

I know its been a while since I made this post but wanted to let you all know what caused this. I had a broken exhaust stud in the rear and was fixing it when I moved the Oil sending unit wire (I believe thats what it is) the wire completely came off. Fixed the wire and problem was solved. I don't know if it told the ecu there was no oil pressure and it wouldn't let it rev as a saftey issue or what but there was no oil light on and the bulb is not burned out.

Interesting. Never heard of this before. Thanks for the heads up ;)

Ah I remember Columbianmax saying something about that on his car. He has a VG auto no power mods and fixing it gave him a smoother idle and seemingly more low end power. Strange your car was limited to 2K and his wasn't...

well once in a great while it wasn't. It would rev to whatever but 98% of the time it wouldn't.
