Finally turbo for 5th gen.

Well here it is all you 5.5 gen. maxima owners.

I just sent my max. out to speed force racing in CA. on a car carrier Saturday. I should get it back either the first or second week in June. We are thinking I will be putting down about 400-425whp:eek: on a basicly stock motor. I already have a lot of work done to the car just want more power.
Other people say the kit is alittle expensive but if you want to play you got to pay. I think it is going to be well worth the money. Since I will be the first or maybe the second 5th gen turbo.

kzoosho 05-12-2008 09:02 AM

Um do a lil search here and youll find that there are more than 2 5th gen turbos. Search is your friend. Good luck with the car tho.

1swtmax 05-12-2008 09:06 AM

Yea home made kits. There is nobody selling kits on the market yet. SFR is planning on a kit to be released for the 5th gen.

1swtmax 05-12-2008 09:18 AM

All Im saying is I have been waiting for a company to make something available to the public for the 5th gen and to no luck. But finally SFR is going to make a kit. I would think that there is someother people out there that would love to have there 5th gen turboed, cause like me not everone out there has the knowledge to turbo there own car or have some weekened shop throw something together. And then boooom.

There were quite a few people with the pfi kit and one person with the turbospecialties kit.

ajcool2 05-12-2008 05:11 PM

Good luck man cant wait to see the end result. Turbo 5.5 gens FTW.

Big_E-Dog 05-12-2008 08:23 PM

is it the speed force in San Diego

chris'smax 05-13-2008 07:07 AM

They make VERY nice stuff. I have their twin turbo kit on my Z and the quality is top notch. Tim will hook you up my man:)

I wouldn't add any more boost beyond that point and be careful with the car and get a well done tune...

450~ WHP is about the limit of the 350z / g35 stock block... obviously you have the same motor with a few internal parts different....

be careful because at that amount of power I see you breaking axles, breaking transmission and maybe breaking your motor...

P.S. I know I am in the process of turboing my car, and am well aware of the what can go wrong, I am just giving you a heads up before you blow your car up...

What year is the OP's car? FYI: if it IS an 02+ Maxima, then, depending on what year / trim the G / Z is/are, all internal parts could very well be the same. That is a different conversation, for a different thread though.

So, we've got about 3 weeks wait here? Just you just drop it off, and hand them some money?

Do you know ANY details whatsoever about this 'kit'?

accordingtou 05-13-2008 10:59 AM

I see you have JWT CAMS:p
Nice body kit too..
Good luck with the SFR kit. I would shoot for lower whp#'s for now..(300's) Until you beef up your drivetrain & get used to the power.
Maybe 450whp/wtq (on race fuel) just for dyno/track days.

The responses in this thread are one of the main reasons I rarely post.
Your best bet is to post after the build is complete to weed out the naysayerhaterpesemistic Group. this same group wil be on yuh jok.lol
The org is full of great information (I donate) but it also has little boys & girls that luv to ankle bite

1swtmax 05-13-2008 04:27 PM

I have already installed a stage 3 clutch and a lighten flywheel. Yes SFR, it is in San Diego. And those pic. on the cardomain site are 3 years old I have done other work since then.

nwell2k3 05-13-2008 07:04 PM

Good luck... It seems to be a very reliable kit. They have been running that same kit on the Altima. They just need to tweak the piping for manual Maximas...

But good luck and post pics...

NmexMAX 05-14-2008 06:45 AM

I know of 1 kit that has gone into an A34, and I know of the many kits that have gone into the L31.

It's the A33B that I have not seen much of anything on. I know there have been a few members in contact with them regarding these A33B kits, but no one has mentioned price, specifically for the A33B.

I guess we will see in a few weeks.

Even better, turbo 4.5 gens... ;)

Good luck to the OP, post up with results/pics when you have it back...

1swtmax 05-14-2008 05:03 PM

I do plan on posting pics and also dyno results as soon as I get the car back.

I also want to take it to the track. With about 400-425whp. What do you guys think my quarter time will be? I'm thinking somewhere in the low to mid 12s. And I do plan on putting slicks on.

If you do plan to mount slicks get hd axles if you can

1swtmax 05-14-2008 05:23 PM

yea, I also thought my first problem would be my axles.

kzoosho 05-14-2008 05:58 PM

Yea i woud deff look into raxle.

1swtmax 05-18-2008 12:15 PM

Well talked to Tim from SFR on friday and they are starting on my car this coming week. He told me that he will have my car for about 4 weeks. So, I should get it back sometime in mid June. I fiqure I better start looking for new tires now haha. Cause its going to be junk in first and second gear. But once its gets rolling, look out.

mooseq30 05-19-2008 01:44 PM

Do some reading and you'll learn a lot! I have a 5th gen turbo max and it makes ~335whp @9psi I don't think u have a chance @ over 400 without blowing your stock motor! For the record If your running a 5spd stock transmission get ready to blow it! it wont last that long! The stock gears are s.h.i.t and made of garbage metal, they will work with the turbo but not for long and every time u shift they will be at risk! If you want to enjoy your 5th gen turbo then get the bran new PAR engineering 1st-4th with input shaft and needle rollers aftermarket gear set! It costs 4000$AUD and it will last and last with all kinds of abuse and power! Its not even released for sale yet but will be very shortly after I receive mine tomorrow and get it installed on Friday, once it is tested and guaranteed to fit they will be for sale! PM me if you want any more details on it and its availability!

Here's a pic of the set that I have of it nearing the end of the production line;

and a picture of the difference between the s.h.i.t stock teeth on the third compared to the s.i.c.k PAR large tooth profile gear;

1swtmax 05-19-2008 07:02 PM

As far as turbo. My 5th gen 2003 6 spd. will be making 400-425whp @ 8 psi already proven with dyno sheets. SFR guarantees (for a year) that the motor will not blow due to the turbo. Unless I would go messing with boost control. He has turboed alot of VQ 3.5 motors with no problems. Only had 2 cars with problems. One was the guy was messing with the boost controler and jacked the boost way up and the motor blew. The other was something about the oil like maybe he did not check it or something like that. He has a 350z with over 450whp on stock internals. Now dont get me wrong I do believe that I am at my limit with my car. I dont plan on trying to make more power because just like your saying it would blow my motor. But I think this turbo set up is a safe one.

Now onto the trans. I havent heart of the problem with the gears. So that is all new. But I have a 2003 6 speed trans so dont know if that would be different comparing it to your 5 speed. I did ask SFR about my axels breaking. He told me not to worry because I would never get enough grip to break them, unless I would put slicks on. So what your telling me is interesting.

mooseq30 05-20-2008 11:23 AM

Sorry I didn't realize that by 5th gen you meant 5.5gen with the 3.5L and 6speed, its bound to make a bit more power than the 3.0L and it has a slightly stronger transmission than the 5spd although it still wont take such a beating so I'd be careful with it still!

i took the altima kit from sfr and made mine

and your not gonna get 400-425

My point is I`ve been on here seeing people wanting a turbo and all im saying is finally someone is making a kit. That YOU or a turner shop could put on. This kit already has the R&D done to it so it is proven. Not some weekened warrior guy that thinks he is a turbospecialists (RacerX1320,kzoosho). haha Now thats shiz funny.

i didn't need someone to make a kit i took a kit and made it fit myself

if the there dyno sheets proving that a 2003 6 speed vq3.5 will make 400-425 at 8lbs than why do they need you car to make the kit and why is it 400-425 and not a set number like mine 374whp-340wtq

They need my car to make the kit available to the public because the engine bay is a little different from Altima to Maxima so basicaly its just the piping that needs to be bent to fit the Maxima sub frame not the Altima.

And lets go back to the whp rating. You agree the that kit that you bought puts down 374whp (great) but you see that is rated for an automatic. My car is a 6speed which will give you a higher whp rating. And I also have a lighten flywheel which is less weight that the motor has to turn and again gives you more whp. Thats why I know it will be more than the 374whp that you are getting. So that is also why Im saying about 400-425. But once I get the car back with dyno sheets I will post them.

So dont say I wont hit 400-425 because I will.

i do know you kit i,ve talked to turbo tim there and i know all about you car

and i know what he told me

I dont think its the kit that people arent interested in, its the way you come across that makes them sound UNinterested.
Please be sure to post dyno numbers when your done and let the car speak for itself.

1swtmax 05-26-2008 01:19 PM

aaaaaawwwwwwllllllllrighty them so sorrry. Is everybody better now. Sorry to come across the way that makes them uninterested. W E Like I said before I will show dyno numbers when I get it back. Hope everyone in here had a great holiday weekened. I cant be much more positive than that RacerX1320.

MIK3 05-26-2008 04:49 PM

Just ran across this companies site, and the seem fairly reputable. I, however, am going to wait a year or so for a couple reasons.

1.) To let this company work out all imperfections and kinks to this kit
2.) Get user feedback on true numbers and reliability
3.) Become better informed and knowledgeable about 5.5gen turboed vehciles
4.) Save $$ and wait for this kit to come down in price

After that, I am highly considering.

If you only have something negative to say, we no positive suggestions, then keep your comments to yourself, or PM the OP. Any such further replies will be deleted.

Let's keep this thread ON TOPIC, which is 1swtmax's turbo kit for HIS 5.5 gen.

i just fried my auto i'm thinking 6 spd swap
or level10's built proof what do you think

The kit is almost done. He just needs to plumb in the waste gate, take everything back off and spec everything out for mass production, polish the pipes and put it all back together. Then its to the dyno for custom tuning. After that the car will be sent back to me. I should get it back by the end of the month (June).

I was talking to another guy on here and he did the same thing. He took out an auto and put in a 6 spd and he seems to like it alot. But then again I also talked to another guy that has a 3.5l tuboed Altima and he fried his auto twice and build it up again, he`s not having any issues now. So I guess its all in what you want. You will get a little more power out of the manual.

MDeezy 06-16-2008 06:21 AM

in for pictures and dynos.

good luck.

1swtmax 06-20-2008 05:42 PM

Well talked to Tim yesterday and it looks like he is going to run 2 preset programs a 6psi setting and a 9psi setting. And we are both thinking around the 415 whp range or possibly alittle higher. But I should know for sure next week hes trying to get it the the dyno by Wendesday. So now it looks like the first week on July that I should get my car back and then post some pics as well as dyno results.

MDeezy 06-20-2008 05:44 PM

maybe I missed it. what is it being tuned with? see if he can take pics as they progress and email them to you.

NmexMAX 06-20-2008 07:31 PM

Apparently it's secret, they wouldn't tell me. They have their own method / software.

MDeezy 06-20-2008 07:51 PM

not that many options. utec/EU/EB/ stand alone.:gotme:

unless they've designed some proprietary software/hardware to tune your specifc vehicle. I'd think it would be one of the options above (more than likely no EB, and I dont think they charged you enough for a stand alone)

1swtmax 06-21-2008 04:59 AM

Yea im not sure, all I know that its a piggy back with a 2 setting boost controler that is designed and pretuned from SFR.
