I had a similar issue with my maxima after my 02 sensor wire melted onto the exhaust. It was a grounding issue with the wire harness. I would test for continuity between all the logic grounds and back to ecu, and also signal wires back to the ecu from the sensors.

ok explain this one to me a little better. I did just buy a grounding kit so i want to re-do a lot of my grounds. But i have tested the sensors signal wires and they are checking out fine.

im tempted to drive it to dealership up the street just to see what they will say.

If continuity from the sensor to the ecu are fine, look into the ground wire of the sensor. If you see any fluctuation of continuity, it may be a slightly weak ground. I'd check all your grounding points for clean contact points also if you haven't done so already.

My issue was the 5v signal was grounding from melted wires. I threw every code and changed all the sensors thinking I messed up the 3.5 swap somehow until I looked under the car.

Hope this helps and good luck. If you do go to the stealership, bring your own vaseline lol

Well yesterday i might have found out what was making things erratic and why the car would not stabilize.

I went and bought a timing light because i have changed coilpacks, sensors, plugs nothing has improved the condition of the car and it progressively gets worse. I put the timing light on the car set it at 20* timing advance and it was spot on.....until the motor was revved. It was not a large amount but it was noticeable that the timing mark was bouncing back and forth and it was worse when the motor was increasing or decreasing in RPM.

Stretched Timing Chain. This would explain a lot, why im getting random misfires when the car is revved, why no matter what sensors i put on the car it keeps throwing the same codes. Its getting an erratic signal from the sensors so it assumes they are bad, of course its causing some knock in random cylinders so it tripped the knock senor code.

So here is the dilemma i am left with. I really do not feel like replacing a timing chain with the motor in the car, please spare me. So im just going to pay somebody to do it. Its between that and buying a 3.5 pray that the 5spd holds up and parting ways with the 3.0. I know plenty of mechanics from work who will give me a good price on labor. I will just get them to take the chain off I WILL SET THE TIMING, lord knows i dont want those guys setting my timing, then have clean up and put everything back on.

Updates because they are fun. The timing chain has been changed, So i now have brand new primaries and secondaries, tensioner and water pump, and now new plans for the turbo.

The T04E is rebuildable despite being a ballbearing turbo BUT it looks like the fins have been touching the compressor housing so sending it too Turbonetics and having them find that out and then what they would charge to replace the compressor wheel and housing.....by the time im done getting raped by repair cost, i can buy a brand new turbo of any brand i want. So i took the cheap way out......

HX40/35 hybrid. This set up should be good for over 400whp with out much fuss. Of course DSM guys see 600whp out of these turbos.....dont see any 6cyl making that kind of power from them. But to be on the safe side as far as my power goals are concerned i went bigger than the "super40" the have a 62mm compressor wheel available for the HX40 so i got that plus the compressor housing to fit around it. The best part is my Turbine housing might not have to be touched to work on the holset, so i do not have to change the flanges.

Pics of all the new stuff will be posted as it arrives.

Compressor wheel was chipped, so yea its just time to move on from the turbonetics unit. there seems to be no damage to the wheels on the holset but its just the turbine im concerned about its getting a new compressor wheel anyway.

Im going to find out soon as the rest of my b00st parts get here. But i have gone through every ignition and fuel control piece on that car and surprisingly a lot of the wiring on that car is in excellent shape(for a car built in April of 95). Timing chain(skipped tooth/stretched chain) was the had to be it. Power loss, off throttle backfires, misses during accel, and eventually the noise emited from the timing covers.

So i have the turbo here waiting for its rebuild kit and hopefully i wont need to take the turbine housing to the machine shop but if so whatever. i can go and start the car but cant drive it anywhere with out the something routing the exhuast somewhere other than directly onto the hood.

Although that top mounted turbo looks cool and blah blah blah sometimes i wish just for the sake of space it was flipped because there is more space in between the transmission and radiator and intake routing would be a lot easier.

This car is just made from something different, even when things are done right it finds something to do wrong and its inexplicable why things go wrong on it. I dont want to give up on it just because it has soo much time in it. And the list of new parts goes like this:

New turbo HX40/35
New BC coils
New wheels
New sound system
New timing chains and tensioners

So here is the decision i have to make. Fix this 3.0, move to a 3.5, or scrap the project.

I think since u already did the timing u should rebuild it.another thing I learned my lesson,if u already doing the timing on a vq u should just rebuild it becuaus it's a lot work to get to the timing u might as well make it brand new, since u know u already boosting it,more wear and tea than usual.

Motor went Kaput yesterday evening when i was trying to move the car. Sounded like several valves dropped and now the motor will not restart so the 3.0 is done....but what is coming next might be equally interesting....I'll be the first on here to do it i know that.
