What's the best turbo for street use(4th gen max)
So I've been reading up about turbos lately and i was wondering what will be a good turbo for a daily driver 4th gen max. I've been lookin around the forum and i see ppl using turbos like t3/t4 60 trim, t3/t04s, t4/t04e. One guy bought a turbonetics t3/t4 with .63 a/r for his max. So there's alotta options but are they the best ones to use? Also are there turbo manifolds available to buy or do the have to be fabricated?

i dont know what to do for a turbo manifold, but for a turbo, it all depends on how much boost you want to run, where you want your power, and how much power you want...
a bigger turbo for bigger HP, a smaller turbo for quicker spool, it depends on how you drive the car too. if you are a heavy foot, you will get alot worse gas mileage if you are lighter on the gas. but for straight drive ability, unless you go and get something ridiculously huge and run high boost... then it should drive ok. i have a built VG with a garret GT 35r .76 /w 9lbs - makes 350whp and 320tq... it drives rather normal unless i get on it, only thing is a clutch if ur a manual. im running a 4 puck act unsprung clutch and a lightened flywheel... so it takes a little to get going, but then its rather easy to drive, not toooooo uncomfortable and it sure is "quick" when i need it :) hope it helps |
Have a T04E and it lags. The good thing about it is around town if feels like a normal 4th gen just has a slightly difficult clutch, until you stray over 3500rpm....

I'm looking to run about 270 to 300hp to the wheels at low psi since my motor is stock. I'm looking for more midrange power.I drive my car hard occasionally but not too hard. I really baby it alot. I just want a fun 4 door turbo car and I think a turbo max will be fun. I'm willing to spend about 3500 to 4000 to do it. Oh and my car is a 96 se 5 speed.

that should work really well for low boost |
That turbo isn't even recommended for our displacement. Everybody starts out saying they don't want alot of boost, but you still need a turbo that won't choke the car when you past 2k rpm.
First google how to read a compressor map, then go to this link: http://www.squirrelpf.com/turbocalc/ liter displacement is 3.0, put in the other things you want like hp and desired boost rpm, then scroll down and see the plot points on the map as you click the different turbos on the list. |

Im thinking of selling the turbo kit on my 4th gen. Its a custom kit I put together. If your seriously interested and ready to buy shoot me a PM. I can provide info, if not, no worries.
Just a little FYI- my turbo is a GT35 turbo 3inch Downpipe, 40mm wastegate, open dump, full 3inch catback.... just a little info. |
