Any longterm 4th gen Turbo owners here???

Hey, so being absent from here for years since I crashed my 4th gen when I was around 18-19 (now 27 y/o lol) I finally got my hands on a nice 4th gen 5spd YEY!!!! :D:D:D

Anyhow, now since I also happen to have a 300zxTT which put down over 400whp, the max is going to be my daily. However, I always wanted to turbo my first 4th gen so now that I have one, I definitely want to turbo it. just wanted to get some input from turbo max owners here about reliability. For a daily, how reliable are they? Am I asking too much? How's the stock tranny on these?Anything I should be more concerned about?

If I could have a 400hp daily driven 4th gen, it would be perfect!!!

I would really appreciate your inputs guys.

stock manual trans is not up to the task, you have to either take it easy, build it up, swap in a 6spd, or become proficient at swapping transmissions.

the car's reliability will be in exact correlation to how good your setup and tune is.

wow, cant believe you're still here posting lolll. I used to read your post back when I had my 4th gen which was easily 7-8 years ago haha:laugh::D

6spd trans are much tougher? can they handle 400+whp reliably on street tires?

I plan on boosting the stock motor and get it around the low 400whp mark. Here's what I have in mind at the moment:

-GT35R turbo (.82 a/r turbine)
-Supporting mode (TIAL bov, wastegate, FMIC etc)
-550cc inj, walbro 255, fpr
-z32 maf
-clutchnet clutch
-6spd tranny???
-nistune???
-stock internals, head, cams
-00vi

I looked up on the nistune website and they do seem to have it for the a32. There's also a tuner locally who is specialized in Nissan and nistune so I'll probably go pay him a visit.

yeah still here. i was out of the game for a while because i parked the car for like 4 years, but got it back on the road last fall and driving it again and having a blast.

the 6spd is definitely a stronger trans. I hesitate to call it "much stronger" because it's still not strong, still has tiny *** gear teeth on tiny *** narrow gears, but just not as tiny as the 5spd lol. 400tq is probably around the realistic safe torque limit for it, you'd be flirting with breaking it i'd say, would probably depend on your clutch and how you drive it. a 5spd at 400tq and I'd say you're absolutely guaranteed to break it, 6spd you're right on the borderline in my opinion. 450tq and i'd feel comfortable saying you'll definitely break it at some point. 400ish and if you are really running it hard and I bet you'd still break it at some point, might last you a good while though.

nistune is the way to go i'd say without question. i don't have one, but 2 of my friends do on their turbo 3rd gens, and i plan on getting it for my 4th gen very soon. my opinion is you'd be nuts to run anything else now that it is available.

I'm long time turbo 3rd gen. Still can't figure out why I've never broke a trans running 30psi.
