245/45 ZR 17 Toyo Proxes T1-S's on stock 17x7 Maxima SE wheels
 

I installed some Toyo Proxes T1-S's today on my stock 17x7 SE wheels and they appear to fit like a glove. The 225/50-17 RE92's are rated at 804 revs per mile and the 245/45-17 T1-S's are rated at 807 revs per mile. So I will get to ride on a much wider tire but my speedometer will still be correct.

so there really isnt a big difference between the /50-17's and the 45/-17's?

Wow, a 245? Most people go with a 235/45/17.

I want to mention that the tires that just came off were Dunlop SP8080's 225/45-17. That tire actually looked small on this rim and my speedometer was about 5% off. 235/45-17's will still be off about 2 to 3%. If you don't go with the stock size of 225/50-17 the only other option that will keep the speedometer correct is 245/45-17. And now I have proven they fit just fine.

Does the tire "bulge" out much. And Where there any problems mounting them. I thought they had to go on a 7.5" in wide wheel.
I called tire rack and they wouldn't sell them to me onece they heard the where going on a stock 17" Max wheel.

Look at the pictures. There is a very small bulge. They fit fine. A firend of mine mounted them where he works and I watched. He had no problems at all mounting these tires. Although it took some extra pressure to get the bead to set.

Cool. Thanks for the info and great quality pics. Is you max lowered? There are no clearence problems w/ the width.
I am on the fence now as to bying Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S 245/45-17
I have been seriously thinking on going to 18"s just to be able to put a high quality tire on.
This could save me some big bucks.

As far as I know, doing such a thing WILL physically fit no problem (mounting is not the issue), but there are reasons manufacturers list minimum and maximum rim widths for tires....

Just be sure to understand what you are getting into before trying this.

What psi are you running in your tires??

The problem is that sidewall flexion might be too intense on turns causing serious problems. The minimum recommended rim width for that tire is 7.5" wide. I thought 235 45 17 was pushing it, but 245 is pretty extreme.

i have 235/45/17 and i run about 36psi all around but it seems to soft for the front though.

how does your car ride now with the 245's. they look great.

32psi. I finally had a chance to drive it and it rides much smoother than what I had before. The ride is also much more quiet than before. There is no rub from lock to lock. You would be suprised as to how big a tire you would have to put on one of these cars to make it rub. It's because the wheels don't turn much and the turning radius is so bad.

While off the car it looks like they fit the rim well. Once on the car the fronts look like they do bulge quite a bit. I would've thought 235's was pushing it too.

You may never have any problems but it's not something I would be comfortable with. I'm planning on going 17x8 with these tires or Nitto 555's. I sincerely hope you don't have one of the fronts de-bead at speed in the twisties. These on 7" will be even more apt to do just that if you get a slow leak and take a corner very fast.

You can't see it but there is no extra bulge when on the car. I bet 255's will fit on these rims and still not lose the bead, not that I would want to use them.

I'm not claiming to know more than you. You have way more real world experience than I do. Why do the tire manufacturers recommend against using a 7" rim with any width tire beyond 225. They use the word "failure" quite frequently.

I don't have the cash right now to get the rims I want (17x8 SSR Comps) and with only 12k on my car there is still quite a bit of tread left on the craptenza's. So I figure I'll get my bills more in line before I spend any more cash. But if I were to get some new tires in a few months then get the rims later that would be pretty atractive cash wise.

Since we're on this thread, would Yokohama Avid H4 fit on my car? Which is better, 235/45HR17 RF or 215/45HR17 RF? Thanks. sorry for stealing your thread. bump.
