Well I've got 18's and mine are in the 35mm offset, but if I'm not mistaken 2k2nyc has 45mm offset. I went with what Discount tire recommended which was 35mm. By the way why are you getting 17's? I think 18's look much better and the ride is still good, it's not harsh at all. Anyway just my 2 cents.:D

Mine are actually 45 offset, but 35 does fit.

David, you've got it backwards. The smaller offset sticks out further, but 35 & 45 both are not small enough to stick out, anything under 30 would have that effect. BTW, I have these wheels w/ a 45 offset.
|
Ok, I may have been mistaken, I was thinking the +35mm meant that the hub area is closer to the wheel well making the wheel stick out farther from the car, you're saying that the larger the offset the closer the wheel is to the wheel well? I guess I was confused, too wide a tire and too large an off set could cause rubbing right? Ah hah!! now I've got it......this is confusing. Are you running 235's or 245's? wouldn't the wider stance of the 35mm cause the car to handle a bit better?
|
You got it right now. I'm running 245/45 tires. I guess the 35 offset would be better for handling purposes (wider is better), but I don't know if 10mm makes that big of a difference. My car handles great tho, I have H&R springs, tokico shocks/struts, a FSTB, a RSTB, and a RSB along with the 245 tires.

The ride did depreciate a little bit with the new wheels, but not by much. I have 245/45 tires on which have a similar sidewall size to the stock 17s. Since you have a lower profile, your ride will be harsher than mine. The symptoms you explained about the bumpy feeling seem correct for low-pro tires, although your steering should be more responsive than it was.
|
Thanks, did you have an alignment done after getting your wheels? and is it nessasary to do so? I guess I should since these are taller and wider. The steering is more responcive, but it feels like I can feel every pit and crack in the road, guess this is the trade that you get for better grip and handling.

I haven't had an alignment; I don't think it's necessary to get one.
