215/55-16 vs 215/60-16

I'm looking for cheap tires because I'm currently working at a construction site.

I've noticed that in tire stores the 55 sizes are considerably pricier than the 60 sizes. The cheapest 55 tire I've found is a Hankook Ventus for $90. In 60 sizes I've found tires in the $50-60 range.

Has anyone here used 215/60-16 tires? What is your experience?
Will it look ugly? Will it feel unstable?

it will look funky, but than again isn't stock gxe 205/60-15?? i might be wrong......
but if it's something temporary than go ahead but if you're gonna keep 'em for awhile i'd spend a little more and get the 215/55-16.... i myself have 225/55/16 and i like it.

I'd have to add over $100 for shipping and handling to Puerto Rico.

I've been looking at that size as well. I have 16" OEM rims from a 5th gen GXE but haven't bought tires for them cuz A) I drive 25-30K miles a year and have never had a set of tires last much longer than that and B) cuz of the whole price thing that you mentioned...tires become an expensive maintenance issue when you buy a decent set every year. I've checked on the size comparisons and the 215/60/16 is a tick more than 1/2" overall diameter taller--less than 3% difference and they'd get closer in size to a stock 205/65/15 with wear. As long as someone else is thinking about the same thing, that makes me feel better!

its done

I know some will not think its a good desicion but I went to WesternAuto (Autozone in the US) and installed 4 of their Sentry's TE with the lifetime balancing, road hazard, new valves and 60,000 mile warranty for $263.

The tires I picked had a modern thread design and are rated "A" for traction so they shouldn't be that bad. The speed rating is T so I can't go faster than 118mph.

They feel good on the car. The ride feels just a little more cushioned. I still had the Goddyears at 67000 miles and they were deformed. I just have to remember I'm not riding on high quality tires when theres a hurry.

I'll probably be working at the construnction site until 2005 so these tires with the road hazard should work for my purpose.
