I was told that Nitto NT555's are crappy tires...
 

Is this true? I have heard that they are good from some, and that they are really bad from others. What's the consensus on these tires? If I wanted a good all season tire (SF Bay Area weather, ranging from hot to foggy/rainy about 50% of the year) would the NT555's work well for me? Thanks.

They work well for me, no complaints. Whom ever told you that can go pound sand. I have about 25K miles on my NT555's and I have about 50% tread left.

Mine are awesome, but they are horrible in the rain.

I've got a set of 245/35/20's in the Nt555's and I love 'em. Alot better ride, wet/dry traction, & wear than I expected from a Z rated tire. I'm going on 25k on mine as well with about 50% of tread left. Depending on the size you want though, you may want to research Nankang. My wife has a set of the 215/35/18's on her car with the same results and she's had hers longer and rides alot more than I do. They're reasonably priced too. $650 for twenties as opposed to $940 for the Nittos.

My buddy has them in 255/40/17 on his stang and they are close to slicks, awesome traction in the rain also, but then again he is RWD.

No problems in the rain with mine and i live in Florida!

235/45-17 with 20k on them.

NT555's aren't all season.

Sorry for being a little off topic but are the Nankang's even comparable tires or would you say they are of almost good quality? I know they are dirt cheap but would they ride as good as the Nitto's? I've heard there really loud tires.

True. Does it snow at all in the SF Bay region? I don't think so... I would just get high performance summer tires (like the NT555) and use them all year in such a climate.

She has the Ultra Sport NS-II's. I would put the Nankang side by side a Nitto. I'm switching when my NT555's wear out. Nothing against the tire itself, but through my experience the Nankangs perform just as well for less money.I was told by a distributor of Nankang that the reason they're so cheap is because their main line is for tractors. They produce car tires "on the side" and are supposedly fairly new to it. When Pirelli gets behind on their orders, they get Nankang to help catch them up, so if you've ever owned a set of Pirelli's, chances are they were produced by Nankang. My wife's had hers on her car since January with no rotation,keeping an eye on tire pressure and balancing and still has 50% of the tread on the front tires and maybe 75% on the rear. She drives a '98 200sx so it's front wheel drive, and to have that much tread left on the front after 11 months constitutes a good tire to me. I had Dunlop FM901's that would only last about 6 under the same conditions. And as for road noise , I haven't heard any. I don't blame you for being skeptical because I was too at first, but after actually owning a set I'm very impressed.

I like my NT555s but rain is not really a concern in Vegas. They are great in dry.

I contemplated them when I bought my Kumhos, but every discount tire guy I talked to said the kumhos were a better tire. that is the reason I went with them.

hey ilya... go buy some Bridgestone RE750... they handle just as well as the NT555 and even better in rain a LOT BETTER IN RAIN i can tell you that hearing from matthel

Discount Tire guys sell whatever they have in stock at the time. They are self-serving idiots.

Maybe so, but I did have to wait on mine to come in from the warehouse. I have also talked to several Mustang guys that have changed and like the Kumhos better. I still think the 555s are a good tire.
