Yeh Really? Isn`t nitrogen actually lighter than air? Maybe the ride is smoother!

Marsh mellow, softwalled Falken 512s on OEM wheels. The car now has the turn in precision of a Grand Marquis. As nice as the 512s stick to the pavement, I actually miss the crapenzas (never though this could be possible). I hope the 512s wear fast.

Are they noisy like my RSA`s? Damn tires if you make the wrong choice you have to live with them for a long time......I`m now thinking Yoko`s.

Don't have experience with the RSAs, but the 512s aren't any noisier than the crapenzas were. I suppose it could be the stereo covering the wind noise covering the tire noise?

If I could do it again, I'd go Proxes 4, even if off spec.

OK...so I just put the 512's on last night. Driving to work and back I hit a stretch of road that has those rain grooves. When I'm on there.....I feel like I'm just "wiggling" down the road. Is this because the sidewalls are too soft? They set my tire pressure to 34 fr and 38 rear.

That's the Grand Marquis feeling. I stand next to my car and push sideways on the fender and I can make the car go back and forth about half an inch or more! Marsh mellows. I set mine at 40 psi all around and it still wiggles. Just wait until you hit a good bump on the road and you can feel the tires give. Makes me wonder how long until I bend a rim.

OK that does it for the Falkens with two rides that wiggle and jiggle, it is obvious these tires are not for me. The Michelins are so damn expensive, what would be an affordable replacement? Proxies, Yokos, Potenzas?

If I could do it again, and for the money, it would be the Toyo Proxes 4, but I was looking for a M+S rating.

Nitto Neo-Gen 225/45-17. Decent wet traction. Decent dry traction. Decent tread life. Look cool. Cheap.

Just got Michelin Hydroedges in 215/55R16. They handle pretty good, though I'm sure performance tires would be much better. The tread life is super long at 140,000 km (about 87,000 miles I think?). Fairly quiet too and traction is great. I bought them cause they are rated really high on tirerack.com. The speed rating is lower, but still much higher than I'll ever drive anyway. So far I'm satisfied!

Oh yeah, I've got winter/snow tires too. They're Nokan Haakapeliita RSI's and I cannot recommend them enough! The tread is really deep and the rubber is soft and sticky. Amazing traction in snow and ice - I had no problems driving through any of the snow storms we had this year. Even through 12 inches of snow there is no problem and braking/cornering is great! Much better than the Blizzaks we ran on our old Maxima.

2 sets - Yokohama Avid A4's in 15" and Toyo Ultra 800's in 15" on stock SE alloys. A4's for summer cruising, not much sidewall but about 30mpg. Toyo's during the winter have great grab for an all season, excellent lateral performance but sticky tire, loose 5 mpg. Considering I put on 650 per week, needed to consider this option.

Falken 512s here - 225/50 17 on the OEM wheels. Luv em to death. Great in rain, good in snow, quiet, good wear, nice tread pattern, handle OK. Perfect for daily driver. They do get a little scary when you start approaching triple digits, but for $97 a piece, can't beat em IMHO.

I'm currently running Michelin's, mainly 'cause they came w/the used wheel/tire combo I bought. Next set will either be Toyo Proxes 4 or Continental Extreme Contact.

4 mismatch wack tires.. but just got 2K stock wheels and now buying tires tomorrow... Should i go with Falken $100 each or Continental's $80 each... just everyday driving in NYC... Those two seem to be the cheapest I can get for a decent tire... Any suggestions... 225/50/17's

Given that you're in NYC, the 512s will give you the softest ride but at the expense of vague steering and mushy handling. I reiterate, those tires are very squirmy and wear may be an issue (20K-25K miles).

What model Contis go for $80 in 225/50R17?

Currently: (Summer)Dunlop SP Sport FM901 (215/40/ZR-18). I don't recommend them - LOUD, weak sidewall, questionable wet traction & wear. I'm looking at the Toyo Proxes 4 for my next set of tires in 235/40-18. They get a great consumer reviews from 1010tires.com, plus I know a few of you guys love them too...

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (good choice, THT).

They are the stickiest tires I've ever driven, also the most I've paid for a tire.

I switched from the stock 205/60/R15s to 245/45/ZR18s, I bought a set of 18's from a 2004 Maxima SE on EBay and I bought new Continental ContiSport 2 tires to go with them... nice, quiet ride and good traction.

I've had:

Goodyear Eagle GA (OEM)
Toyo Proxes H4
Bridgestone Potenza RE930
Bridgestone Potenza RE950
Kumho Ecsta Supra 712
Kumho Ecsta ASX

I would recommend all of them except the original Eagle GAs. Not all of those are high performance tires, but they all filled their respective roles very well.

Holy sheep ****, mzmtg is on his 6th set of tires and I'm still driving around on my OEM Goodyear Eagle RSAs that are wearing like iron. They've got 58K, mostly highway miles on them, and are good for another 5 or 6K. Next up is either BF Goodrich Traction TAs or Yokohama Avid H4S as I'm staying with the OEM 15" sawblades and intend to remain a 4x4er.

Almost 15k miles on them!!!

LOVE Them! Very wide, very stable, not noisy....great tire wear. Great in dry and wet!!! Better than my older, very noisy, $200/each, Michelin Pilot sport A/S.

I have a set of 4 used winter Bridgestone Blizzak 16" wheels/tires so i don't worry about snow/ice.
