Continental ContiExtremeContact...
Just bought my second set....
Bought my first one exactly one year ago... I drive pretty hard (especially corners) so I needed new tires once again....
I can't be more satisfied with these tires.....
Definitely recommend them...
225/55/16 cost me $370 mounted & balanced

This is honestly one of the only good reviews I've ever heard of a continental tire. Historically I've heard nothing but "mediocre" to "bad" reviews.
Have you had any other high performance tires that you have had a chance to personally compare them to?

Nick.
Nick.
Most of the folks I know with such cars end up replacing the tires with something else because they are unhappy with them, which is why I posted what I did. Same thing goes for the stock bridgestones on Maximas, etc.

don't take it personally but the threads i read had only good things to say about them....
if you have some info on why you think they are crappy, i would appreciate a link so i could read up and maybe go with something else next time.
Thanks!

I'm just hoping you know something that I don't know...
BTW: I just did a quick search and this is about 1/3 of the threads that mention those tires....i could not find one negative review about them...

I love these tires. I have put about 8000 miles on them and they look pretty new except 2 tires have a flat spot(saved me from an accident). But hte flat spot is almost gone. I love hte wet traction since it rains alot over here.

Have 215/50/17 Continental ExtremeContacts with 20,000 miles on them. Have yet to rotate them and the front tread depth is still 6/32...more than half. I keep them hard at 44 front, 37 rear PSI which resolves the extremely compliant sidewall issue for improved handling while getting excellent mileage. I expect 40,000 is possible. These tires are terrific in rain and snow conditions and no slouch on a dry road. May not be the best choice for the south and southwest unless you're in the mountains but in New England, these are great tires and extremely well designed with very tough internal belting: suitable for our "budget constrained" highway repairs. Will buy again. By the way, the 215 Conti's measure about 3/16-1/4" wider than the original 225 Bridgestone RE92's so it not like stepping down in size at all.

Hey guys...
i got into an accident in our '97 Maxima GXE which was totalled by the insurance company so we got a '00 Maxima SE.
Now i want to upgrade the tires on it to the ContiExtremeContacts but i was thinking also upgrading the tire size from 215/55/16 to 225/50/16. I just put it into the Tire Calculator and the speedo with a 225/50/16 would read 1.8% too fast; so when my speedo reads 60mph i would really be going 58.9mph. This does not bother me because being 1mph slower is impossible to even feel or see on the speedometer. I have the 16" 5-spoke SE wheels which i believe are 6.5" wide.
Tire Rack has the conti's for $90 for 215/55 and $87 for the 225/50's. Are there any draw backs by going with the wider tire? I am prolly blowing this out of proportion but i just wanted to ask you guys about it.
Thanks!

I was deciding between the Falken Ziez and the ExtremeContacts. I decided on the Falkens but maybe ill go with the ExtremeContacts. Going from 215 to 225 is okay on the stock 5 spoke SE wheels?

check out the reviews on Tirerack.com. They are rated just barely below the Pilots, but for half the price.

I would have got the Conti's or possibly the Pirelli Neros but I have a GLE and could only safely go to 225/50/17. I decided to go with the Falkens. So far no complaints, but I have yet to drive on snow with them. They have to be better then the Bridgestones.

i have the contactxtremes on my stock gle........i love these these tires......i feel real safe in them all yr long........They're real grippy.......i wish i had the suspension upgrade to go with these tires. I lasted through the winter in NYC with these tires but now i'm at upstate ny.......we'll see how this tire hold up this winter

Has anyone had the Falkens and the Extremecontacts? I did some research before and they seemed to be about the same in performance but the Falkens were cheaper and I thought they look better. Is 225 50 16 going to be any better than 255 55 16?

FloydMax commented that the actual tread width is slightly wider than that of the RE92s. My only concern is the difference in sidewall height - it'll be slightly smaller meaning you might have a small increase in gap between the tire and the fender.
For the ratings (onTireRack.com) and price they seem like a pretty good bargain for an all-season tire.
For me it's between these Connies and the Falken 512...
