Where to purchase Falkens?

I'm doing some research on tires, and i've decided to go for the falken 512 ziex. Where's the cheapest place to purchase them online?

any suggestions?

I buy all my tires from www.tires.com or www.tirerack.com

If you must, but remember, buying tires is not like buying shoes where you can try different pairs. The 512s will feel like your max is riding on 75-80 series tires. The sidewalls are way too soft.

What do soft sidewalls do to the drive of the car, affect the handling negatively??

got any good info on the 512? any pros or cons.

just wanted to see how these tires were, because i heard some good stuff about these tires. But if not i'll get some re750 after my 2 other tires go bald.

In normal (read: mild) street driving and if nobody told you about it ahead of time you might not even notice. And many of the people who do notice that something was different would not be able to correctly identify the reason. But it takes some of the 'crispness' out of turn-in, and would not be particularly well suited to autocrossing (even though I've seen a car or two running them in local events).

But if you were going to auto-x on Falkens, you'd know about 'Azenis' anyway.

what size falkens are you looking for.

I've seen them for $44 a tire (16"), so that would be about $176 + shipping probably in the ~$200

but depends on the size.

I might go with them for some beater tires if my current tires pop on me, and I dont get enough time to save up for the Toyo proxes 4. my tread is next to gone.

I wish. The reasuring feeling is pretty much taken out of driving my max by putting on these 512s. I got on the gas in the middle of a turn last night, nowhere near the limit of the old crapenzas and the transition between rolling off the brakes and getting on the gas was anything but "crispy." The car felt as if I had a tire going down, the rear end wiggling all over the place. I stopped and checked the pressures and had lost 1-2 psi from the 40 psi I set them a couple of weeks earlier. Set them at 44 and still no difference.

Stay tuned to the tires F/S forum for slashed prices on a set of 512s with less than 1000 miles on them. I can't stand these tires. For $10 a tire more Falken could have stiffened the sidewalls and made a world class tire.

thank you for the warning, I've heard mixed reviewes that these are grippy but will wear fast, what kind of rims do you have? might that be affecting the tires? trying to narrow it down if its the tire or maybe your setup.

i need to replace my tires very soon, and though those might be good if I have to quickly buy some tires, but if they are like that then I will put at least $10 more a tire to get something decent (going for the proxes 4 anyway)

OEM SE wheels, but the wheels make no difference. It's the tires, so I am actually shopping for Proxes 4 too. Once I get them, the 512s go on the F/S forum or ebay. (my problem is that I'm on the road and my max is sitting at home).

Before this gets into a discussion about the quality of the 512's, read the stickie this forum.

That's the most worthless stickie on this forum. IT'S CLOSED... If it weren't that's where my b!tching, er, opinions, would be. Anyone who reads that stickie just gets one guy's opinion.

Or you could look to the previous 2 or 3 pages of threads and see about 100 of them relating to the 512's.

CCS2k1 - just how hard is your street driving? Can you absolutely remove shock condition and whatever the Scott-Russell linkage is up to under the conditions you weren't happy about from the handling symptoms? Rear ride height vs rear axle rollsteer? FWIW, I've noticed a corkscrewy chassis motion in my 20AE under certain circumstances as well, but since it also happened with the RE92's it doesn't appear to be primarily a tire issue.

On occation hard, but that's maybe about 10% of my driving, and that has not changed from when the B'stones were on the car. I ran 35 psi all around on the stones. I have the 512s at 44 psi now and the stones rode still harsher, but gave consistent feedback. I never experienced the "corkscrew" feeling before with the stones, as bad as the solid beam and Scott-Russell linkage setup is.

The feedback the 512s give does not give me any reassuring feeling, as nice and sticky as they are. I cannot "point and shoot" the max. The car feels like it's got recirculating-ball steering. The rolling of the rims inside the tires call for too much unnecessary steering input. 48 psi looms.

Bought mine at Sears this past week. Price matched Discount Tire's $106 and since Discount does free shipping nothing else was added. Factor in Sears 10% difference guarantee and they were about $104/tire. Luckily they were in stock also. The nice thing about it is that any problems......go right down the road. Worth the couple extra bucks.
