Let's see your 17" rims

Anyone with them, please post pics of them. I wanna see how much the difference is in size compared to 18's. Im tryin to figure out if it is worth the extra money to buy 18's or buy 17s and with the money saved.. buy greddy sp2..??

personally, i think 18's look better. they fill the gap better and have usually a lower profile tire. are there any downsides to 18's, seeing as how i might buy some soon? just trying to get educated before i dish out a grand or two on rims

I love those rims maxima99SE. Those look good for being 17's and they dont look that small. I was also told the 17 inch rims have better performance tires out than 18's and, of course, the tires would be cheaper. I think that would prolly be best for me... but yea.. keep the pics comin.

XoPtOn Dec 5, 2004 05:11 PM

i like Manual Maxima's rims the most and second most Maxima99Se's rims, im switching from 18's to 17's this spring. Manual Maxima's rims look to close to mine but im really feeling the design. Dont know what i'll get either. Post the names of the rims also, if you could. That would help

Maxima99SE Dec 5, 2004 05:14 PM

mine are Enkei OR52 17"x7 and I've never seen another maxima other than mine with them :grinno:

ManualMaxima Dec 5, 2004 05:42 PM

mine are mille miglia actions, i have never seen another maxiam with them either.

im feelin the Enkei OR52. You think those would look good on my Rosewood maxima? Im not sure if gunmetal would look good with a rosewood maxima. A photoshop would be cool too... lol [hint]

Maxima99SE Dec 5, 2004 07:22 PM

gimme a side pic of your rosewood max and ill do a (rough) photochop

VQuick Dec 5, 2004 07:25 PM

There are many benfits to 17s versus 18+s.

1. Lighter, usually, and the weight is closer in to the center (less rotational mass, which makes a big difference for acceleration and braking)
2. Cheaper rims
3. Cheaper tires
4. Ride is less harsh
5. Less likely to bend a rim on a pothole

If you get a rim without a lip, it will look much bigger than a rim with a lip. Notice how small Dave Bs rims look compare to mine. (His are also a lot lighter...)

2K3 17's NO DROP

Broaner Dec 7, 2004 11:26 AM

Some 17's really look like crap. For that matter some rims look like crap no matter the size. IMO, form and function must coexist. Who else thinks this should be moved?

GoalieKeg: your Max looks infinitely better with the coilovers. An unlowered Max on Evos looks terrible. Good work. BTW, how is the ride on the TEIN Basics? I have TEIN High Techs with Illuminas and the ride is good but I wish the drop were a tiny bit lower.

ilyaat: OMG you need a drop. :)

in my opinion, most custom 17's really dont look too good, gotta get atleast 18s. if you want good looking 17's id say go with the 2k3 SE 6-spoke rims. they look really good on a 4th gen.

Thanks for the props. :)

I love the Tein Basics. They are awesome. Since I got my max, I planned to get the best when it came to the drop and handling, so I saved up for full coilovers. Best decision I've made yet on my car.

The ride is harsh over uneven surfaces, but on generally good roads (I live in FL, so pretty much every road is generally smooth) they are amazing. I take highway ramps and turns too fast (how ironic). In other words, the ride is incredible. I don't mind sacrificing comfort for performance for the most part, and these deliver.

I was originally going to get the setup that you have (or illuminas) but decided I wanted it slammed. :deezo: I can still lower my car about an inch lower than it is.

What u talkin bout, I love my Off Road Maxima! I get MAD respect for it, YO :o It can go where others cant...but yes, everytime i look at it, makes me wanna cry since its like SUV-Maxima edition (you should see it live...not that bad, but from some angles it does look like SUV).

How much would a good 1.5inch drop cost? I guess i need new sprints/shocks

A good 1.5" drop would cost between $500 and $600. $400 for Illuminas and $100 to $200 for springs. TEIN High Tech and H&Rs both drop about 1.5".

But you could start out with just the springs and pay for Illuminas later. The drawbacks are:
1. ride won't be as good because of stock struts
2. stock struts will blow fairly quickly on lowering springs
3. you will have to disassemble your entire suspension a second time to install the Illuminas
