Tire rack say they should have this tire in stock on 1-5-05.
I don't know what you are talking about

the T/As can get noisy but I would rather deal with a little more road noise than skid off an snowy road and wreck my car. I am from NY. I am doing a teardown of my interior soon anyways and installing sound dampening material

I have BFGoodrich Traction T/A 235/45/17s on my car.

These tires blow away the stock tires, though they do create a bit more road noise. I have driven in rain with out wetting my panties, but have yet to drive in snow...I put them on in September, and probably have 3500 miles on them.

Why do you wear panties?

i recently bought a set of Nokian W.R. AWP's in 235/45-17's and they are a great all season tire. i was driving in the snow storm we had a week or 2 back and i could comfortably maintain the speed limit, even with the roads being pretty hazardous. i recommend them. they were $162 a tire.

Here is the Toyo link

I am considering either these or the new Avon Tech M550. The Toyo's look like a very good all-season tire if you are looking for the stock size of 215/55/17. I have gone to a few tire shops by me and they are selling for approx. $160 installed. The Avon's also come in this size but are only sold thru tirerack for $109 each.

The GLE has a 7 spoke rim that has 215/55/17 tire size which has even less of a choice of tires.

^^ the GLE rim size is the same as the SE rim (17x7). So, you can use the SE tire size ( 225-50-17) on the GLE rim.

not to stir anyone here but, we REALLY have winter here (northern Canada) i've still got the oem turanza el42's h rated - they're sittin in the garage right now though, have gone to a winter package.

but after next spring/summer when i burn of the oems, i will either go withe BFG traction ta's or Michelin Hydroedge on my 03 GLE. size 225/55/17.

The name is for a reason, they are built to get the best possible traction an all season tire can get. I hydroplane in medium rain storms so easily with the falkens and never with the tractions. I am the only person I know of on here that has them.

Mark

which is why i have pilots.. when they were new they were awesome int he rain..

now that im low tho..less than 40% its startign to suck int he rain...

Not quite correct - about 10 years ago Michelin bought/merged with BFG, they do maintain distinct product lines.

Jeez...so many posts and nobody told the thread starter that 225/50 is an acceptable size because all 6-spoke Maximas come with them. Get Falken's in 225/50.

Quite true. The website states that Michelin has the license from BF Goodrich to make tires for them. BF Goodrich still designs tires but don't manufacture them.

I did on 12-30-2004, 01:28 PM on this thread. As a matter of fact I was specific in referencing that size tire for his 5.5 Gen OEM GLE rims which are 17x7 7-spoke with a different offset than the 6-spoke you referenced.

so are the falkens worse than the Potenza RE92 in handling? If the falkens are better, then why not, since Im used to the RE92s.

The Falkens are superior in grip to the RE92s (but so is just about any other tire currently in the market). The Falken 512's problem is their feedback, none too reassuring. Any near spirited driving will be rewarded with horrid steering and cornering feedback (as my sig above states). Road ruts and cross wind driving make it for an interesting drive and so is cornering transitions.

If your driving style is on the sedate side these tires may fit your needs. I'd personally put 512s in luxo boats or minivans only.

I have Traction T/A on mine, and it is good (not great) in snow when I drove up to the mountains for ski 2 weeks ago.

Whatever you put on, make sure you have a decent warranty and exchange guarantee from a reputable source. A lot of people who bought Falkens on line (including me) are SOL about getting their money back if they feel they made a $500-$600 mistake (like me).

Check out the Toyo TPT. Toyo tires have a 500 mile "test drive" -- Money back if you are not completely satisfied.

Gotta disagree about the Falkens. I had them on my 95 and my father has them on his LHS and we both think that they are great. Wet is amazing? Yes they could have a stiffer sidewall but a great tire for everyday driving

Opinions are like a$sholes... and here's my opinion. The Falkens squirm like no other tire I've ever owned, and my first car had 75 series tires...

What's the point of having great grip if you don't know what the car is actually doing? I honestly don't know what these tires will be like in avoidance/emergency maneouvers. These tires don't make me feel safe, not because of their grip, but because of their lack of feed back.

CCS2k1max....I guess I might have to agree with you. I just went through my 1st snow with the Falkens. They do grip WAY better than the OEMs, however the "squirm" definitely left something to be desired. I hit a stretch of highway with the grooves in them, and with the snow and ice I felt like I was just hoping I wouldn't get tossed around. Next time around, I'll have really watch the forums here to see what people are saying about other tires as well.

Reading opinions in the forums, checking out tire reviews from Consumer Reports, 1010tires.com and Tirerack isn't enough. I did all that and 8 out of 10 people seem love these tires. I don't get it.

I couldn't take the 512s any more. I felt if I was going to spend $250 in a deductible, I might as well trump that and get rid of the 512s. I just took them off this weekend and put on snow tires on a set of steelies I picked up on ebay. The same place the Falkens will end up if I don't get a good offer from the 512 lovers in the Wheels/Tires F/S forum. I just need to get the tread depths and take some pics.

BTW, so far, the snow tires (Dunlop Winter Sport M3s) have the same handling feel as the "high performance" Falkens. Pretty bad when a 55 series snow tire handles as good as a 50 series "high performance" tire.
