Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

It ran a bit over $1000 at Sears to replace the four Bridgestone Potenzas at 24,000 miles on my 02 SE 6-speed, including alignment, balancing, etc., but the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (225/50ZR 17) tires they put on make a world of difference on this car, as many others have reported, too. The original equipment Potenzas were not worn much at all, actually--probably had another 36,000 in them--but they're slippery, and with a Milwaukee winter under way the change seemed timely. Very confidence inspiring tires, with great grip on dry roads as well as rain, sleet and snow covered ones...a vast improvement. Now, what will it take to get Nissan to specify these Michelins as original equipment on Maximas, or at least as an option?

I have them too...Love them.

I believe that would involve driving the car's price up. If you think like that regarding tires, others may think like that regarding other things, when it would all be said and done, we would be paying Mercedes price.

I don't think it would affect the price that much. It would only be a small difference in the price of the tires. Bridgestone/Firestone are Japanese owned and Michelin is French owned. The Japanese want to use their tires on their cars as much as possible. That's one way to assure you sell tires even if a lot of people don't like them. I like my Potenza's even though I like Michelins better. It's hard to beat a Michelin IMHO.

I did the exact same thing in late 03' (early replacement of OEM EL42 Turanza's in my case) for this geography/weather. FWIW- It took mine roughly 1K miles and a rotation cycle before I really noted the Pilot's true personality. I'll keep an eye out for ya' on Milwaukee I-system.
