is a little rubbing bad?

okay...I would like to know if rubbing is bad? bad for the car, bad for the tire...whatever....and i'm not talkin bout severe rubbing...like just a small pitched rubbing noise when u lock out the steering wheel (u-turns)....

the reason i ask is becuz on my 2k2 with D2 coilovers...I am rubbing only when i lock out my steering wheel to the left...its not a big rub either....just minor...was wondering if this will hurt anything?

nah, you should be ok.... I've had rubbing with no probs... eventually the tire will wear and it goes away (maybe)...

Yeah hopefully....cuz I just got new tires today....so i'm assuming that its rubbing becuz the tire is brand spanking new....and the tread is real thick and beefy so it sticks out a tad bit more than my BALDED old tires....

anyway, anybody else wanna comment on rubbing? good?...bad?

I rub the inside wheel well full lock left and right. Left's a little worse but I couldn't notice any premature wear on the tires.

It only rubs the corner of the tire (where the sidewall and contact patch meet) it's no problem.

rubbing shouldn't prematurely wear the tires right? I mean my rubbing is only very minor (not loud) and its only for a few seconds when making a u-turn.....and its not like I make a u-turn every single corner.....so it shouldn't prematurely wear the tires right?

oh yeah i don't rub when i go over speed bumps....none at all actually....only when i lock out my steering wheel to the left...

I would get under the car and check exactly what it is rubbing and how badly. Just going by sound isn't a very good way to judge this. It's better to know and find out now, rather than to find out it rubbed right through a fender liner or chewed up the side of the tire later on.

A "little" rubbing should be okay if it's not damaging anything, but make sure it really is just a little. Some tires in the same size differ a bit in measurement from one model/brand to the next, which might be another factor.

I shall lock out my steering wheel and turn off the car....then examine the tire.....later down the road that is...right now it's too early cuz i just barely got the tires...thanks for the tip!

If the tires are rubbing against the inside fender liner, you could always grind down the area. The tire marks will indicate the areas that need grinding.
