Tires Question... What fits our stock 17's & What do you recommend
 

OK guys, taxes are coming soon and with my return I am going to reward myself and my car with new tires. I cannot stand the deathtenzas any longer and I just wanted to ask a few questions. Before I ask away, I want to say that i'm looking for summer performance tires (winter is not a factor here). I want tires that will dramatically reduce wheelspin and continue to perform excellent when I modify my car. I am looking for performance; money is not a major factor and I would like them to last ~20,000 miles. I drive very conservative for the most part, I just want insane performance on demand.

I looked at the following tires: Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 but they do not have 225/50/17 so will 235/50-17 or 245/45-17 tires fit on our rims? I am trying to get new tires without really affecting the accuracy of the speedo.

I also looked at Pilot Sport A/S... They do have 225/50-17 but are more expensive than what I would assume are the better performing PS2's

I am open to suggestions and personal reviews since you all know what it is like to send tons of power to the front wheels. I have raced a few times with my Potenzas and lost becuase I was simply spinning out of control. I cannot grip 1-2 gears... I want something I can launch with and not spin out of control. I hope you guys know what I mean. Thanks in advance.

225/45 or 235/45 would work fine on stock 17''...i had 225/45 before on my stock 00 17'' and the ride was smooth and feel like stock

i would go with 235/45, cuz you want to keep the diameter close to stock, and thats pretty close....

and btw, theres a tire forum that has a million threads on this very topic, just for future reference :grinno:

235/45/17 have had that size on the car for two years... rides and works great.

I also have 235/45/17 on my stock wheels. I just got new tires and so far they have been great. BFGoodrich Traction T/A. They are H-rated so you might not be interested, but on TireRack they are rated pretty high in all categories. 60,000 miles warranty too.

yea 235/45 i think is pretty good. i like the way they feel on cornering and overall steer compared to the stock size.
I actually have had the goodyear Eagle F1 tires and i really realy liked them alot, esp in Rain they gripped and were able to take turns like nothing.

it's a little taller. Stick w/ 225/50/17s

I did the 235 and had it on for 200 miles , hit a hole and the tire popped off, later read on a wesite that i cannot remember, it said to stay away from the 235...just my $.02

I would love to stick with the stock size but they don't make the Pilot PS2s that size. Others have 235/45 working great... I figured I would get the 235/50 becuase it offsets the speedo less than the 235/45 according to this tire size calculator I used.

Thanks for all of your suggestions... If anything i'll pick up the more expensive Pilot Sport A/S tires that do make 225/50-17...

Heard many good review on Pilot Sports A/S. Definitely a good choice.

I have 225-55-17, they are a bit beefier, fill up the wheel well nicely.
plenty in that size available. I went with Continental Premier Touring.

Some of us have put 245/45-17s on the stock wheels with no problems. And that is a near perfect circumference match to the 225/50-17.
