Yokohama's Avid V4S
 

They have a treadwear of 500!!! Does anyone have any experience with this tire? I found them for $110 a piece. Any comments on these?

I have been reading reviews all day and these are what I really want to order. I would really like to get at least one persons opinion before I make the purchase. They seem so inexpensive to be as good of a tire as they claim to be? Please, any info would be really helpful... thanks!

I have used Yoko Avid H before on a different front drive car. They were excellent, a big wet traction upgrade from Michelin MXV. They were quiet and gave exceptional traction in wet and dry. It only snows here about once every 26 years on average so I don't know about snow. I hope to replace my RSAs with Yoko Avid V soon.

where did you find them for that price? I need tires bad..

I just bought Yokohama Avid H4S last week at a blowout price, Cdn$80 each (regular Cdn$147) and tires are a lot more expensive here than in the US. I really haven't had a chance to try them out much yet. It was a toss-up for me between the Avid H4S and BF Goodrich Traction TA, but the blowout price was the determining factor.

I am still running the 15" sawblades with 215/60/15 tires and would have strongly considered the V4S but they are not available in that size.

The only caveat I would have, based on the survey, is that there may be other tires that are better in snow and ice, eg. BF Goodrich Traction TA. I don't know if you have dedicated snow tires, but you shouldn't be driving the Maxima in snow, ice and salt at any rate.

The V4S are top rated on www.tirerack.com. Don't dilly dally any longer, buy them before the price changes.

I had H4S too, awesome tire for the money. Great traction in wet and dry, quiet at all times too. BUT, its snow capabilities are not too good. :nervous:

I went to order them today and they are backstocked. They must be really good tires since people are buying them. I do need to know if they are good in snow since winter will be here shortly... Any other suggestions?

I'm also considering these tires. If anyone has had any experience with them in snow or ice please enlighten us. I need to get either some good all seasons or winter tires as my Kuhmo KH11s are not recommended for snow or ice.

I would check out Discount Tire (the online store) before you buy these though. The last time I checked they also carried them but offered a $50 rebate if you buy a set of 4.

i have the Avid V4S on my stockers, nice quiet ride...the handling is good on dry roads, but on snowy roads, my slip light just keeps blinking (99 SE). Doesn't happen that often when it rains, but last winter in NYC sucked. about an inch of fluffy snow on the ground and it took forever to get traction off a red light...

Anyways, the only thing that could have worked well in that weather is putting chains on the tires.

V4s are indeed rated as among the best all season high performance tires. I think I’m ganna buy them too in a couple of month.

I was on the highway today in pouring rain at 70 mph in my new Yokohama Avid H4S and I felt very comfortable at that speed. I'm glad I broke down and bought them as I would have been reluctant to go over 60 mph in those conditions with my Goodyear Eagle RSAs which were down to about 3/32".

I am also impressed with how quiet the tire is. I haven't been on the twisties with them yet, but from what I gather they grip pretty well under dry conditions.

Toyo Proxes TPT – also something to consider

BTW: what do you people think are the grippiest (dry pavement) all season tires available for our cars? (under $200 and under $150)

Get on tirerack and cheque it out. I was considering Toyo Proxes TPT when I was shopping around for tires, but was advised that both the BF Goodrich Traction TA and Yokohama Avid H4S were better tires in that price range.

Toyos are not rated on tirerack. Both the Traction TA and Avid H4S are lower in price than your above figures.

Consider the Toyox Proxes 4 or Pirelli PzeroNero M&S. Avon makes a good tire. I believe the Bridgestone (?) RE950 comes highly rated.

Check out tirerack.com survery results for ultra high-performance and high performance all-season tires. I am restricted in availability as I am still running the OEM 15" sawblades and a lot of the higher end tires do not come in my size.

At any rate, I am sure that I will be more than happy with the Yokohama Avid H4S and at Cdn$80 plus tax and installation, the price was right.

Definitely check out DiscountTireDirect for the Avids - I ordered 4 today for my mom's I35 and got free shipping and a $50 rebate. The total was $440 - $50 rebate = $390 for 4 225/50/17 tires. I still have to get them installed but that is a deal!

I ordered the V4S from tirerack.com, and they ran me about 85 bucks a piece. All in all with shipping, I paid 370 or so, and they are already here the house, only one day after I placed the order.

Good to hear - I have ordered from TireRack before but my size is listed on TR at $103 each plus shipping and they are on backorder.

That's odd. What size did you try to order? I ordered 215/55 R16 which is the same size as the tires I currently have on the car right now. Were you possibly buying a wider tire?
