I have only tried a few of the tires listed :
pirelli's
khumo's
falken's
continental's
bridgestone's
yoko's
and toyo's

In my opinion the toyo's take the prize because they stick like glue in heavy rains(almost better than dry) and thats where I want my tires to really show me their worth. the khumo was a close 2nd, pirelli gets 3rd and yoko gets 4th. the rest just plain didnt stick well enough for my liking in dry wet or otherwise for me.

I am about to purchase tires and I wanna make sure I get the right tire. I am a spirited driver FOR SURE but nothing like autox. I live in new england so I deal with snow and rain but can't afford a 2nd set of tires.

Lots of posts say the yokohama AVID V4S is a great tire. I found all 4 for $575. Is that a good deal and is that the best tire I can get for myself for that price.

p.s. I went to Town Fair Tire and they say they match any price and all this stuff, but I hear so much bad things about them I just stayed away (after I went there, paid them, and respectfully asked for my money back 15 mins later). Are they really that bad there?

I didn't vote since I haven't run any of those tires listed but I just picked up some Michelin Pilot A/S once I try them out in the rain and snow. I will take them in a few inches of snow and check how they do on freezing roads too. All provided by the Denver Co weather.
I will vote and post my findings later.

Falken 912's were a decent tire with good dry traction, I did hydroplain a few time in the rain and they are horible in the least bit of snow. I did get some squealing around a turn but i was going about 85 mph on stock rims.

I wouldn't buy these again.

In the performance all-season department, I'd go with:

More wet/cold weather: Nokian WR. Noisy on dry pavement, but durable, don't mush up the handling too much (up it a few PSI, it's a world of difference), and are awe-inspiring in slush, snow (deep snow, even) and on ice. After the first 30% of tread they get noisier though, especially in winter. "Finnish all-season tire" makes all my friends laugh and comment like "what seasons - cold and fr***ing cold?"

More dry/less snow: Yokohama Avid V4S. Good dry and wet traction, not too noisy. Snow is not miserable, but about what you'd expect from a performance all season.

Tires I did not like:

Bridgestone Touranzas or whatever came on an 01 Max SE20A stock. Quiet, nice when dry, ok when wet, miserable from the first snow flake on. Technically an all-season, but drives more like a touring tire.

Goodyear RS-A: Underwhelming in all departments. Short life, expensive, somehow dry traction ain't the best, I don't know how that can get screwed up. Wet traction is a non-starter after the first 30% of tread, and snow traction is poor in the first 30%, and laughable thereafter. Really soft sidewalls - they make the Yokohamas above feel stiff.

I bought my vehicle at about 47,000 miles in Feb. 2007 and it had Riken Raptor tires installed. I'm at about 88,000 miles and the tires have great tread left but have cupped around the edges. I'll have to bite the bullet and buy some tires maybe end of year or early next year. Just my $.02...

So I'm looking for a nice affordable set of All-Season tires to put on my 06 SE. Currently, it has some Eagle F1 Supercar EMT's and they are all less than 2-4/32 so it's about time for a new set!

I have been seriously considering the Continental ExtremeContact DWS which currently claims the #1 spot on TireRack.com but the guys at Discount said that the Eagle GT is better in every way although I have read several reviews regarding the noise levels being a bit higher with these tires. A guy at Walmart suggested the Goodyear Eagle "Authority" which he claims replaced the GT ... but I've come to find out that it is merely a Walmart exclusive which is very similar to the GT. The Walmart employee said he wouldn't buy Continental so save his life...

I like the idea of the rim protectors on the Goodyear brand tires, but if the Continental has a similar design, I definitely think I'll be going with those as they are $10-12 cheaper.

Has anyone had experience with Continental tires or these ExtremeContact DWS's in particular? I had put some ContiExtremeContacts on my 08 Mazda3 before I traded it in on the Maxima but I didn't get a chance to see them perform in bad weather.

Thanks for any input!

I bought my vehicle with 47,000 miles with Riken Raptor tires. I'm not sure how long the tires were on the vehicle prior to my purchase. The vehicle now has 91,000 miles on it and the same Riken Raptor tires are on the vehicle. I have some cupping and some road noise, but tread is still awesome.

Been very disappointing with treadwear with Yokohama AVID H4S with only 50,000 km on it I will need to replace in a little more than 5,000 km.

And the rain driving was less than satisfying.

i was thinken about getting these for the g35 19 rays im bout to buy. what size wheel n tire you runnen? according to the numbers and the general consensus of this thread, they are great! they are the highest rated all season on tire rack, and stats show a big difference, of course its all subjective to the manufacturer... any performance mods on ur max? im looken to make about 250 to the wheels when i finish the first stage of mods... :/

so yeah, if you could learn me a bit mo, that would be greatly appreciated!

Don't see General Exclaim UHP's on the list of tires. Bought a set of these about a month ago, they were recommended by a co-worker who drives very spirited. Found them at a local shop for $522, that was mounted, balanced and new chrome valve stems, tax, out the door. So far I am very impressed, 100% better than the Bridgestones that were on it.

Anyone heard of the mad in China tire Sailun Atrezzo SH402?

www.sailuntyre.com

One garage who sells them says his customers have been quite satisfied.

At $76 per tire, it could be a sleeper.

I trip out. Noone that took the poll likes the potenza pole position.

But tire rack has it rated #1. Consumer reports has it rated number one in performance poor in tread life.
Is a Toyo Proxes 4 really a better performance tire? Becuase I can get them for the same.

I have 2k miles on my new bridgestone potenza RE960, MN has had the worst weather these past days, a tornado warning was issued and my parents immediately told us to hide in the basement, me being me and my maxima outside I raced away from the storm and MINIMAL hydroplaning with like 6 inches of water on the ground and I was doing 70 mph through a 35 to get away from this storm and to my surprise these tires stuck like it was dry outside. I highly recommend these tires in the summer but we shall se what happens as the miles rack up.

Id say these "bridgestone ****enzas" saved my life

I decided to get a set of wheels with General Exclaim UHP tires to run on my Max during the summer, and just run the Nokian WR tires in the winter.

They're pretty darn good. Road noise is okay, grip is excellent, even when driving through the common thunderstorm rain squalls we around here. The tread is pretty deep, braking traction even on uneven pavement is impressive, and 9000 miles in they don't look like they wore off much tread. For $99 ea. at Tire Rack, not a bad deal IMO.

Well I got Pirelli P4s on special about $100 each and they seem to be the best all-round. Good on dry and wet. Snow? we'll see. I have snows, but am told you can get away with new All-seasons in the first year.

Anybody know anything about the Hankook Ventus V4 es tires? They are listed as ultra low profile so I'm wondering how they'll look on stock wheels.

It's not on the list, but I got a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires on Saturday. My dad always made me get tires that were less than $85 but this time out of curiosity I didn't go cheap. I gotta say these are the absolute best tires that have been installed! Ride is smooth and quiet. Handling was improved, especially in the rain. Today was pouring and it felt like I was driving on dry pavement.

I was gonna go with the Pilot Exalto A/S but the tire shop I went to were out of stock and needed tires so I had to fork over a little extra for the Primacy. I don't regret it one bit though.

I just ordered a set of Kumho's Ecsta LX Platinums for my wife's new(used) 2007 Maxima that is being shipped in. It has 55,000 miles and the original GS-A's are worn. They are ranked on the higher end on Tirerack but had the best price after rebate. Since my wife is driving it, I was most interested in a quiet smooth ride for her. I will update thoughts after some miles are put on them.

I hope you have better luck with them. I got them for my TL and I have been pretty disappointed with them on their ride quality and overall noise level considering how high they were ranked on tirerack. But they were dirt cheap so I guess you only get what you pay for! Next time, I'm going back to a Bridgestone or Michelin.

I just picked up a set of the DWS today and with the first 120mile road trip, they have to be some of the quietest tires I have ever run on any of my cars. Easy 3x quieter than my worn GY Eagle GTs!
Havent had a chance to play much but, I'm happy so far on the freeway. Sidewalls did feel to roll quite a bit more...
Need some weather here in CO to see how they hold up overall. 225/50s on stock 17s

yokohama AVID !! FTW

I have nothing but good things to say about the Yokohama AVID line! I previously owned 2 sets of the V4S', and I'm currently on a set of AVID Envigors. Not much has changed from what I can tell between the V4S and the Envigor other than the tread pattern. I have had the opportunity in the past month or so to drive through many different conditions. And as always I am impressed. Wet and dry traction leave nothing to be desired, noise levels are a non issue, and comfort is top notch. I highly recommend this tire to anyone. As per Tire rack they are ranked #2 in it's class; I was unable to locate #1 as per Tirerack. I caught a killer deal and was able to get a set of 4 installed for 565 all said and done. I was surprised at the cost, and made sure that they weren't old as well. Manufactured Feubruary of this year. So all said and done I absolutely am more than pleased with this line from Yokohama! Any questions feel free to ask or PM me! Oh and I am all stock as far as tires are concerned so...

Preciate the feedback. I checked them out and Tirerack does confirm everything you said. I like the price. I've paid $900+ for tires before for stock riding as well as non-stock. Now, I want the most for my money, but I also want a nice ride too.

I'm in bw these and the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum. I like the price of both. They're in different categories, but both will suffice.

We shall see...

My 2012 has less than 10K miles and I've already shopped for new tires. Based on feedback from owners (29 million miles worth) Tirerack seems to have the Continental DWS as the best tires for the money in an all season performance tire. The guy at Discount Tire also told me the DWS is a really good tire as well...so I'm sold.

I will be getting the DWS myself in the next 20-25K miles. How long do the Eagle RSA 2s last? Treadwear rating is only 260 or 280 so I expect them to be bald no later than 35K miles.

I've got an 02 I35. I see some guys running 235/45/17 on their Maximas. I've currently got 225/50/17 Falken 912 on the car, and looking to replace. Possibly with some Goodyear Eagle GT UHP. My question is what benefits are there going to a 235/45 from a 225/50?
