Why dosn't anyone have General Exclaims?

I am researching tires for my new 18's and the General Exclaim is the cheapest and highest ranked tire in the high performance summer category at Tire Rack. It has been around for a while but it seems like nobody has it. There are only 2XXk miles reported on Tire Rack. I found a rating from the 03 Consumer Reports and it did not do well against other all season tires. I live in the south so I really don't care about snow/ice performance. Anyone have these and have any comments? Even if the ratings on Tire Rack are a little off they can't be that bad, especially for the price.

um, b/c I never even heard of them? possibly since a lot of us go for All Seasons, no search has brought these up. If they're that cheap, go for them. Are there any testimonials?

Beware the new tire

These are just like the AVONS.....brand new tire, no real world data or feedback from drivers with many thousands of miles on the tires.
New tech tires may be better in some ways, but the ture test of a tire's performance is on the road.
I'd steer clear of any tires with no feedback from actual drivers, unless of course you really don't care what you put on your car.

A classic example of a highly rated tire that would never get my $$$ would be the Falken Ziex.

I currently have the Avon m550 a/s, but the tires that came with my max when I bought it were General Exclaim (not UHP, like the ones on Tirerack). I switched them off cuz they SUCKED big time in both rain and light snow.

Uh, I think you should go to the site. There are seemingly hundreds of very positive reviews of the tire. Good ride, low noise, good wet and dry traction, especially for the price. Most complaints have to do with the soft sidewall, but that also obviously helps the ride.

I have them and I love them. They have about 6k miles on them and so far so good. Great wet and dry traction. I haven't had a chance to try them in snow. I can't really comment on the sidewall because I've only had the Blowtenza's on previously. I don't think they'll last for 40K, but what do you expect for the price? Best bang for the buck.

I went to Discount Tire just the other day to have my Kumho SPT's installed. I saw the new General in there while waiting. They look like truck tires. The water channels are huge (stick your thumb in them) and it doesn't look like a very street worthy tire.

I threw on a set of general tires on my old car... they sucked big time.

In eight months I had to switch them all out because they all had the sidewalls split.

Did you specifically put the General Exclaim UHP on your old car? I have had poor experience with other General tires but these have good ratings. Also, this tire is not new. Consumer Reports tested it in 2003.

No, they were not that exact tire, but I will never put a General tire on my car again.

How long does CR test them for? They were fine for the first six months, then they all went to hell. It would be different if it was just one tire, but they ALL had the problem.

The Exclaim might be fine, I just want you to know my experiance with General tires...

I don't know what kind of truck tires you've been looking at, but there are plenty of decent tires out there with wide water channels. I would think that wide water channels would allow the tire to push a large amount of water away. They haven't hydroplaned yet for me.

The Kumho SPT seems to be a better tire judging from Tire Rack's tests.

i'm just about to buy some 18s with decent tires but looking for tires to get in the future. i also saw the reviews on the General Exclaims. they really seem like they are worth the money with pretty wear for the size and performance. i think i'll give them a shot when the time comes.

i've had them since last june and they've done me no harm. There def . not a pilot sport, but its a really good all season tire. Fine in the winter, i dont exactly track my car, but drive aggressive enough to want a decent tire and they seem to get the job done.

This tire isn't new. It's been used in Europe for several years now and it's very popular over there. Granted they do get a softer (faster wearing) tread compound.

I have been looking into this tire for a couple of weeks now after it was recomended to me by an engineer that works at the local Continental plant. The guy has them on his M3 and he loves them, especially for the price.

The Exclaim UHP will definately be the next tire I purchase.

Yeah and I said the exact same thing about Nitto after my experiences with the Nitto 450. But later I got stuck with a set of 555s only to learn that Nitto could make a very good tire, even if the royaly screwed up one before it.

Have you ever seen the Toyo T1-S, Toyo T1-R, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 or the Yokohama AVS Sport? All of those are superior wet and dry tires with similar charactheristics to the UHP, but cost twice as much on average. So are you really misjudging these tires because they have 'General' stamped on the side of them or bcause they only cost $79 each?

For $79 a tire I'll gladly try them, and if they're even 80% as good as the Goodyear Eagles I would call that a win.

I'm also thinking about buying a pair for my fronts. I've got a nail in one of my Nitto's and it's too close to teh sidewall to be repaired.

My mom has a pair of these on her 2004 bmw 530 size 245/40/18 and they look sweet on her car. It's black and sits really low about 1.5 inches above the tires. They seem to handle really good also, up until the other day i had never heard of them either.... Their cheap, great tread pattern and good handling..

I need a whole new set of tires...and I think I'm going to go with these....I said the same thing...what is General???? They are cheap...but I just did a comparison on TireRack.com...and they are majority in the excellent catagory...so I'm going to get them...they don't have anything for winter...but I stay in Louisiana, we don't have snow or ice, so I don't really need them for that. The wet traction is really good, we need that in the south. So I will post more about them once I have them on for a while if I can find tires for the front and back...I have alot of traveling coming up. So...I will let you know...

I'll be jumping on the bandwagon soon. I need a set of summer tires for my new MM's and I was considering these or Kumho Ecsta STP's.

For $97 a tire and being the #1 rated tire on tirerack, this should be a win-win situation.

anymore reviews from those who've had them for a while now? hows the treadwear holding up?

Beware Of Gen Exclaim Uhp

I have these General Exclaims on my Max in 255/35/20 size. My Max has 1,000 miles on it and I just got the wheels (Enkei LM1 chrome) and tires a couple weeks ago.

These tires will not balance. Maybe it is just because of the size I purchased, but I have had them mounted,unmounted,re-mounted,spin balanced, computer balanced, and road-force balanced (twice).

I have about $200 wrapped up in just trying to balance these suckers in just two weeks. Three different tire shops said the same thing.....that the wheels are fine and the problem is with the tires.

Called Tire-Rack and they immediately sent me new replacement tires (same brand, model, and size tire)........still, I cannot get them to balance.

My steering wheel was shaking at 60mph. Now with the "new" tires, my steering wheel AND my seats are now shaking......

YEAHHH!!!!....

This sucks...I found out they dont come in 225/50/17...which is the factory sized tire for the 2k2 max....they dont even have 215/50/17...225/45/17 and 235/45/17 are the closest...what should I do?

I have these Genaral Exclaim UHP tires in size 245/45/17 (Z wheels). I have them for 9k+ miles so far. I like them a lot. They are quiet, great in wet and dry and they show almost No wear after close to 10k miles. Side wall is a little on the soft side...but oh well....ride is better. They balanced just fine and also, they are NOT heavy at all. (had heavy Avon tures before)
I don't really see how they "look like truck tires"??

They may not be the best tire out there, but so far, i find them better than most i have tried, yet they are very very affordable. They are made in Germany!!

245/45/17 is pretty close to matching the 225/50/17 size. only .2" smaller in diameter than stock. i guess since they are Ultra High Performance, they won't have anything higher than a 45 series? the 245/45 are only $79, so pretty cheap.

Tirerack recommends 235/50/17 for my car as an upgrade. And after checking the tire size calculator, it is only 0.227% faster, so 60MPH = 60.1 actual speed.
