What's the offset to my stock wheel?
My car is a '91 SE with the original 15x6.5" 12-slot wheels and I can't find the offset listed anywhere. I want to be able to double check fitment with the offset calculator before I pull the trigger on some new rims, but I need the original wheel's offset to do it. Anyone know what it is, or should I just relax and trust the tire rack that +35 is ok for a 17x8" wheel?

You should be fine w/ 17x8 and 35mm offset.

stock offset for the 3rd wheels are +35
17x8 +35 will work fine... if you want your wheels to be flush with the fenders, try +22. Will probably need to roll fenders though. |
Is that the GXE or the SE offset you gave me? I know the GXE's are 6" wide and my SE's are 6.5", so does it make a difference? And what do you mean by "roll the fenders?"

And what do you mean by "roll the fenders?" http://www.bmwdiy.info/fender-rollin...rolling-04.jpg http://www.bmwdiy.info/fender-rollin...rolling-05.jpg *pictures where taken from here . ....you can achieve a nice wheel fitment when rolling the fender, where the outer edge of the rim is flush with the fender. https://www.clublexus.com/gallery/data/500/871.jpg |
I guess the whole reason I want the 8" wide wheels is for handling/traction, but I'll go narrower if you're saying they'll stick out beyond the fender. I've seen that and it looks tacky to me. Is that what would happen with the 8s?

They wont stick out the fenders with the offset you mentioned earlier (+35). I suggested an offset (+22) that will make the outer edge of the rim flush with the fender, which looks good but requires a fender roll. In my opinion, wheels that look sunken in doesnt look too good.
