toyo proxy 4's who has them, how do you like them, what did they replace

I had OEM potenzas before. Proxes 4 is a very good tire, grips well in both dry and wet. It's also very predictable and gives you plenty of warning before starting to slip.

The only downside I have discovered sofar is that it does not like to be abused.

I have them in 225/50/16. They replaced a set of Hankook Ventus Sport K104s in 205/55/16. I had been using different sets for summer and winter, but I figured I'd try the Proxes 4s for the summer, and if they still had enough tread left by the winter to be of any use, then I'd ditch my all-seasons and just go with one set.

Dry traction and grip with the Toyos are much better. I guess it doesn't hurt that they're 20mm wider than my old tires. But considering that they're all-seasons whereas the Hankooks were summer tires, it's still significant. The Hankooks couldn't even stand up to the Toyos when they had >3 degrees negative camber (now running ~1.1 with the Toyos).

Wet grip is also better with the Toyos. It's not a slam-dunk, but it's notceable.

Snow/slush traction and grip are 100% as good as I need them to be, even when it's deep. I don't exactly drive like a felon in those conditions, so the grip I get from the Toyos is more than adequate.

There is only one caveat: the Toyos' sidewalls are definitely on the soft side. Not a problem for most people, but with my super stiff suspension (Ksport coilovers), it's a disaster: these Toyos get MURDERED by my old Hankooks in terms of stability. They didn't grip like the Toyos, but they were consistent and did what they did in a very controlled manner. With the Toyos, though, my car wallows and wobbles in uneven corners unless I turn the tire pressures up past 46psi (cold).... at which point it begins bouncing and jiggling instead. My limits are high, but my handling is nervous and quirky at times and my front end can be easily unsettled in some cases.

Again... I really do not see that as being much of a problem for people who don't have uber-stiff suspension. If that's you, then these tires are definitely a great buy.

i now leaning towards the avid v4s's yokohama seems to be a good tire...and it seems they get good reviews

I replaced my Goodyears with the Proxes 4's. I have nothing but good to say about them. Unlike the fellow above stated they can be pushed very hard and not break loose. They perform in wet and dry amazingly. I'd get them again in a heartbeat.

To clarify... I didn't say they had a problem with being pushed hard. In fact, I said they had fabulous grip. I'm only complaining about the sidewall, which I will again stress was really only a problem because of my stiff suspension.

I should receive my coilovers in about a week or two. :noes:

What size are your tires?

225/50-17, so the sidewall is just like yours.

Well, you have a heavier car and a stiffer frame, so that should help things. Do let us know how it works out.

I have them in 225/45-17 and they replaced Kumho 712s. The grip very well in straight line and corner pretty good, but the sidewall is extremely soft, which really irriates me while cornering. It is anoying enough that I will probably go with something else next time.

wet/rain traction is 100x better than the kumhos, I can accelerate pretty much full throttle and keep traction while it is raining, every once in while they break loose in first and second when my VI opens

The only things I don't like about them are the soft sidewalls, but other than that they are great.

Mine are 235/40/18, so the sidewall stiffness seems fine to me. Also, my suspension is still stock, which makes a difference, I know. In my size and suspension I feel no sign of softness in the sidewall. I understand your point. Thanks for the clarification.

Yup. Stock suspension with low-profile tires vs. coilovers with medium-profile tires... That's night-and-day as far as we're talking about.

Question: How are they in light snow/slush? Winter doesn't just "begin" in WI- Ever. I know they're listed as UHP A/S, but I'd rather have someone other than the salesperson tell me they deserve that status.

I love the proxes 4. I have them in 40 profile 18" (235-40-18)

They are very quiet, have great traction in every condition (wet/dry/snow/ice)

They are very stable on high speed turns and such. I am dropped on eibach pro kit btw.
