Thanks!

bump, I have a '99 SE and my current tire specs are 215/55/16. I want to know the same thing. Can I mount wider tires on my OEM SE 16" rims? or do I need accompanying rims to go with it?

little help anyone?

i think its 245....? i got a 96 se 5spd and right now its on 215's. i know 235 fits but i wanna know and i think 245 will fit.

245 will absolutley not fit. It will be too wide. It is not even a good idea to put a 235 on 7 inch tire, as per discussion here. Stick with the 215 if you are currently not having problems. I am not a tire guru but from what I have recently learned from my own questioning, There is not enough rim to support 245 on a stock 16x6 rim.

Go to www.tirerack.com and pick the tire size you think will fit. Look at the header above the tire for the "spec" icon, click it.... you will see the specs on the tires including rim size required. Normally as you reduce the profile you need to increase the rim width. I ran a 225/60/15 (taller and wider) on my old saw-blades, I don't think you are going to fit a larger tire than that on the 15s.
As for the stock 16s I've run 225/50/16s that is about the max I would run on the stock SE 16s (If your not lowered your car looks like a 4x4 on 225/50s)

If you're running stock wheels, just stick with 215. But if you're running wider wheels, let's say 8.5" wide, 245 should not be a problem with mild drop. Then again, offset does matter.

Question on wheel / tire, fits / sizes:

What are the advantages / disadvantages to running a 235/45/17 versus a 225/50/17, obviously the 235 is wider and the 45 is shorter, are there any disadvantages to running a 45 over a 50 (on stock Maxima 2001 wheels).

Is there any inherent danger / disadvantage in running 235/45/17 over the stock 225/50/17 on the 2001 wheels (but on a 98 Maxima)

thanks
