6th Gen 17's on 4th Gen

Hey guys, I just put some 6th gen wheels and tires on my 96, tires were only used for 500 miles. I got them locally :doublethu Anyways I drove the car a little bit afterwards and went up and down my driveway bump (alty is dead so no long drives for now). They seemed fine, the drivers front rubbed a little bit, but its like brushing not full fledged rubbing (car was hit on that side before I owned it so maybe its just a bump from the wreck?), the pass was fine. So my question is I should have no problem with these right? (I'm new to the whole tire size thing) They look sweet! I used to have the 95-96 hubcaps that were ridiculously ugly haha..
Thanks guys!

You'll probably want to get the proper tire size ratio to match your speedometer. 6th gens come with tires that are 1-step too big for 4th gens.

:worthless

Take your hand and see how much space you have between the inside of the tire(s) and the wheel well(s) when straight AND when turned all the way to left & right....

Should give you an idea if you need to add spacers or not, to stop the "brushing"

What do you mean? Will my speedo read high or low? low I'm guessing. Also the tires are staying since they have only been driven 500 miles.

It seems okay with my hand, and I made a hard turn and everything seemed okay I hear a noise but I think it was my dying alty (also why my car is dirty and the brakes are dusty, car had not been driven in 3 weeks, plan on fixing it this saturday). I also went up and down my driveway at different speeds to see if they hit anything going up and down the bump and all seemed fine. (the hood is next to be fixed)

This is the one that worries me: Drivers side turning all the way left

Now all the way right seems fine:

your tires are too big
you will need 225/50-17 to get within the speedo and not rub
you actually have not experienced RUBBING yet.

From the pic it looks like you're running 225/55/R17. The overall diameter of those tires is too big for a 4th gen. Your speedo will be off and you might rub a bit. If the tires are staying, then there is nothing else we can help you with.

maxima985spd: Your max is looking extra low! ;-) The way it should be!

Alright Thanks Maxima985spd & Ewuzh. So will rubbing a little bit here and there hurt anything but the tire itself? Also will my speed be high or low on my speedo? Thanks guys...

the_3d_man Apr 25, 2007 09:10 PM

rubbing is not good... it can hurt more than the tire, depending on how sever it is, and if you hit a big bump and it really drives the tire into the fender if can screw something up. Get the right size tires!

Your speedo will register that you are travelling slower than you really are.

I would definately SELL the tires and replace them with 225/50/17 or even 235/45/17 tires.

I know that it may cost a little more cash, but they are the wrong size- you cannot fix that.

sure hope 235/45 wont cause any rubbing...

HELLLL YEA!!!!!!!!!

Looks like where your rubbing is where your plastic fender lining is warped or bulging out. look at the diver's wheel

They never did on the 5th gen. I would recommend that he look for 225/50 first.
