Thanks for all who replied recommending wheel selection. I decided on the Moda R6 with 235/45-17 Sumitomo HTR+ and called Tire Rack ready to order when the Rep questioned my decision on the 235/45 for my tires on my Max (2k2 Max SE) stating that the overall diameter would be 25.3 and that I should keep the diameter around 26 because of possible issues with suspension, ride, etc., which could affect my warranty if I decided on 235/45. He told me I should go 235/50 which would be a 26.3 diameter. He stated the OEM tires/wheels have a 25.9 diameter. He caught me by surprise with this and I told him I would think about it and call him back. I know members here have used 235/45's and I would like to know if there is any truth to this 26-inch diameter rule and what is their experience or troubles with 235/45-17 on a 7.5 width rim on our Maximas. Thanks for your help.

I have 245/45/17 on my 17x7.5 BBS rims and no rubbing problems or turning issues at all.....

best of all, tire is thick and meaty and grips quite good coupled with my Maxspeed spring/GR-2 strut combo

there wont be an issue with 235/45 on 7.5. some here run that size on their stock 7" wheels. ive got a 235/50 on a 17X7.5 and i think its a little more cushioned than some 45 profile that ive riden in before. im going with a 45 profile for my next tire since it should have less flex since the sidewall is smaller. you will be fine with either size.

Thanks for the input. The tire calculator shows that the diameter between the 225/50-27 and 245/45-17 are about even. Would there be any issues using the 245/45 on the Max? Just wondering why the TR rep didn't mention the 245/45 as an alternative also. Thanks.

I have 245/45-17 Toyo T1-Ss on my stock 17x7 SE wheels. The tire diameter is a perfect match to the stock 225/50-17s. The GPS and speedometer agree with each other.

So at 7.5 wheel width I should be fine with the 245/45's. Any turning or rubbing issues to be aware of. Getting my ducks together for another go at it when I call TR tomorrow. Want my rims and tires.

on a 17x7.5 you DEFINITELY will want and enjoy the effects of a 245/45 tire...

The A33 has the turning radius of the Titanic which gives you room to run huge tires without rubbing.

Ordered my new wheels and tires today. Purchased the 17-inch Moda R6 with Sumitomo HTR+ 235/45-17's. Should have them by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Yes I did. After talking to another TR rep, he said I would be fine with the 235/45-17 since they were going on a 7.5 and not a 8 inch width rim. Will let you know when I get them Tuesday.

235 vs 245 is such a small difference. You'd probably barely notice any better performance. According to this tire calculator either size would've fit on a 7.5 or 8 inch wide rim.

I am using a 97 SE as a track day car and the track we race on has lots of turns. I'm trying to find the tire that will give us the best handling and traction on 7.5 inch rims.

I see that 235/45s and 235/40s will fit but they aren't optimal (based on daily driving conditions). They list 225/50 as optimal. I don't care about aesthetics.

My question is, which tire will give us the best handling? 235/40s? 235/45s? 225/50s?

Stiffer le sidewall, le better?

But in the end, most meat on the ground seems king.

So look at the measured width of each tire in those sizes before making a comparison.

Should help between your final choice of 40 vs 45 series.
