Tire skin peeling

My two front tires seem to have some peeling near the edges. What can cause this?

Thanks.
Are the tires screwed.
Should I get them re-aligned or just get a new pair.

I can't see the entire tread but if the wear in your photos is the worst of it, I'd say get yourself an alignment, maintain your tire pressure and you should be good for quite a while.

These tires are pretty much done. The one on the right especially...you'd have ZERO grip in any sort of standing water. Unless the budget just doesn't allow it at this time, I'd definitely get new tires and have the alignment done.
