installed pathfinder 6 disc bose

I hit the jackpot on ebay.... picked up the 6 disc bose for $80, and when it arrived today it ended up being the 6 disc, MP3 and WMA, and DVD! It is a huge improvement over the factory bose! also has RDS

everyone should try to get one of these!

this one is actually made by visteon and was assembled in 2006.

updated with pics!

I'll snap some pics tomorrow.... it looks identical to all the other ones, except it says it is MP3/WMA and has a DVD button. I have no idea if it will play DVDs yet or if it is just for rear seat DVD (it does NOT say 'rear" on it like the other ones though)

This is the non-bose version. It will not work with a Bose system. So beware of wasting your money. Rockford Fosgate makes both those units but one is for the Bose system and one is not. If it does not say Bose than it WILL NOT work with a Bose system.

Man you got a sweet deal, when I "WON' my 03 Pathfinder radio a while back on Ebay I paid $170 for it. The plus was that it was a 6 pack CD and it was plug and play with no modifications or dremeling. Definitely try to find out what the CD option does.

For some reason, I thought the 05 and up Pathfinder Bose 6 Disc MP3 units were made by Panasonic. This is the first time I hear of the Visteon brand.

Good Luck with the unit!

I bought an 05 Pathfinder unit in December for $ 100 bucks, it does not have the DVD button. I believe it did say Visteon.
I ground down the buttons, welded on four new ears and used all 8 holes. I just wish it wasn't orange! Works great for $ 100 bucks.

Visteon is an OEM manufacturer only. They make products for many many companies. Large contracts with the big auto producers.

I'm very interested in this unit as well. Some features that I love are the OEM look, the 6 Disc changer, and mp3 capability.

The second option is to get an after market head unit which may push out slightly more power. The downsides of after market are most are single din units and will leave my dash with a pocket underneath.

Here are some questions: Has anyone heard the Pathfinder unit in a 4th gen Bose Maxima and has heard an after market unit such as Alpine or Kenwood installed in a Maxima with Bose speakers?

I'm wondering which one will sound better. My friend has a Kenwood installed in his 99 Maxima with Bose and the sound is clean and undistorted. Factory units tend to give a dirtier sound, that is not as clear. Anyone who has heard both, feel free to comment.

I would imagine that non-bose owners can install the non-bose pathfinder mp3 units such as the rockford fosgate units sold.

It also appears that this unit may be from a model with a rear DVD such as a Armada or Quest? The ones with out the DVD are made by Panasonic model # 28185 - A420 Ref # is CQ-EN7461X and 28185 EA420 Ref # is CQ-EN7461X. As you can see the Viseton model # differs.

Max,

How do you like it over the 4th gen bose unit? Has the sound quality improved?

Im not max, but I could hear a noticeable difference. Sound is more full and bass is tighter. The volume control is different and does not need to be cranked to play loud. The **** is not as sensitive as the factory unit though as it has volume levels (i.e. 1 through 30 or so)

Im going to test a DVD in the unit... if it plays dvd recorded mp3s I could have nearly 30gigs of music!! but I doubt it will work

It does sound better to me. It also adds a midrange control, which the stock 4th gen doesn't have. And the display actually works!

What do you mean by ground down the buttons? Isn't this plug and play?

I installed a Kenwood on mine couple months ago and I am happy with it. To me, it is a big upgrade from the OEM Bose. I picked the Kenwood because of its rear USB port which I put it inside the pocket underneath the stereo.

As for the hole underneath, I just bought another pocket from an .org member. Looks pretty nice.

VERY NICE!

2 questions though...

1) I Understand there is a possible modification with the bracket but is this plug and play wiring?
2) Is there a legitimate aux in port somewhere on this unit to connect an MP3 player?

thanks

1) yea youre right the bracket has to be adjusted about 1.5 inches forward.
and the wiring is plug and play EXCEPT you have to splice two wires, which is easy if you have the splicer thing from radio shack (krzz350 knows what they are called - you just put the two wires in there and push them together.

2) no, no aux port. but it plays mp3 cds, which means each cd holds 120-150 songs.

I see your's is different than the one at the start of this thread... the unit pictured by jbrocious has an AUX button... Would that model have an AUX port?

yea his is DVD capable, mine is not.

you can have all the AUX buttons in the world, but if theres no jack for an external drive, then its useless....
