Play in steering rack - New rack, or rebuild?
So I have asked about this in a few other threads, have done research and read the fsm but am not able to confirm this.
I have some play whithin my steering rack, meaning that the arm that moves in and out of the actual rack, is moving up and down under load when turning the wheel, and makes a clicking sound.
My assumption is that there is a bushing inside the rack that is worn out, allowing this play.
My question is, is it possible to basically rebuild this rack with new bushings instead of buying a whole new rack?
I see that there is a steering rack "seal kit" for our cars on rockauto.com for about 50 bucks, that looks like it contains a bushing that could be used for this.
Otherwise I'm looking at 4-$500 for a new rack, anyone?

How about checking out the tie rods/ball joints bushings in the front end first?
BTW having actually taken apart a couple steering racks, what a PITA of snap rings... it would make more sense to just buy a low mileage unit from the junkyard. A car hit in the back you could probably still test it before they pulled it.

I assumed it would be a pain in the *** to rebuild, but also to remove one from a rusty wrecked car in the mud.
I discovered this when I was about to replace inner tie-rods, soon as the boots came off you could see the play was in the rack, not the ball joint of the inner.

Anyone done a rebuild on our racks?
Just installed coilovers and about to install pretty much every other front end part, so I want to either rebuild this rack or buy a new one so I can get the alignment done after all of it.
