Simple way to add AUX to the Bose system...
This is much easier than all that, Just go get yourself one of the cassette tape adapters with the aux wire that plugs into ur Mp3 player or ???
This is what I use on mine, works awesome!
Or get urself a FM Transmitter that plugs into your cigarette lighter and sincs to ur radio. They got some nice ones out there, got MP3, SD card slot, etc. Check it out.

Did the mod on 2006 Max w/Bose system. Only works with IPhone 4 or lower, will not work with iPhone 5 or Galaxy S3. Not sure what's up with it, phone will not even acknowledge the headset input. Any thoughts...

So you have a 99 head unit? I was on ebay looking for a factory radio for a friend of mine when i came across my head unit and it has the aux mod. So i know it can be done. But i dont know what Im doing wrong. Its soo easy on the 94-98 units...i don't know why Nissan decided to change the circuit board on the 99...???

any one done a 2001? i'm about to burn some CD but, i got the car fixed and am in the fixing mood and am thinking of doing this to my 2001 guide or no guide, i know it has a tape deck whihc means it just matter of wiring it in to the magnetic sensor's leads.
i've used a cheap cassette to to head phone adapter, it was low volume with ****ty clarity. i'm sure this helps being wired in directly so way less signal loss but, i have to winder if it will be all for nothing.
EDIT: there is a thread on how to do a 2002, which is notable different but, all units have the tape deck which is what this mod taps in to. you are still limited to the audio quality the tape deck circuits and head unit can out put vs the cassette adapter which si subject to signal degradation and noise. at least with the 2002 thread, he tapped in to the tape deck.

i read pages 1-3 noone seem to give a true answer if it worked for the 99 head unit.
i had a 96 head unit did the mod. WORKED SO GOOD. then the radio started going all postal on me so i got a 99 bose head unit from a path finder (looks the same as the 99 gle model).
so not only did i get this unit for free at my job, it plays better, everything works so prefect too.
i just need to know does this work off the 99 radio??

No, this mod works. Weird thing. The radio I got has the 97/98 face but the circuit board of my 99 and the lettering on where to connect the switch and sure enough it worked. Upon looking at my original headunit. I seen corrosion on certain parts of the board. And it did look like it got wet in the past. The stereo reception wasnt all that good also. So I think it had something to do with that...I think the heater core or something went bad. Cause they removed the dashboard. Which is weird cause the car had 100k when I bought her. The light sensor was removed and not mounted. And the cabin temp sensor wasn't installed either and the hose wasn't connected either. So now it works perfectly. So to confirm yes it works for 99 Bose headunit.

Throw in the towel and stop giving yourself a headache.

works with 98 Bose HU - my experience
Hi all,
I spent about 3 hours reading this thread and reading other sites about adding AUX to my 98 Nissan Maxima Bose HU. I then spent another couple hours trying to figure out why the sound was so quiet. I wanted to share my experience to hopefully aid someone else and reduce some of the researching.
To take the radio out follow this quide
http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/647021.pdf
or this video
I was able to use the cd changer port on the back to connect the wires. You can find a diagram of the cd changer port on the next link as well as some other information. The benefit of using the cd changer port is that I didn't need to solder the Bose HU and I didn't need to take the HU out of it's case once removed from the console.
http://ryft.org/wiki/index.php?title...Bose_HU_AUX_in
If that link is not working then you can refer to this text explanation.
The cd changer port located on the bottom right on the back of the HU has 2 rows of pins with 12 pins total, 4 pins on top and 8 pins on bottom. Those pins are as follows:
AB----CD
EFGHIJKL
A = left channel input +
B = right channel input +
C = combi->cd (txd)
D = combi-on signal output
E = left channel input -
F = right channel input -
G = ground
H = ground
I = nothing
J = slace-ic request
K = cd->combi (rxd)
L = aux-on signal input
I used female jumper wires. They are wires that have jumpers on each end so the wire can be attached to the pins easily without soldering. I purchased them at radio shack.
The easy part was connecting the single throw single pole (STSP) switch. Simply connect one wire from pin K to the switch and one wire from pin L to the other connection on the switch. Done with the switch. The switch is necessary to tell the radio we will be using Aux.
The hard part was making the audio loud enough. The problem is that Bose uses a differential signal. A pretty good explanation is on this page:
http://forums.maxima.org/audio-elect...se-stereo.html
abridged version:
------
The audio signal received at the Bose stereo is taken as the difference between the + and - signals. If we use the left channel (L) for an example, then in the solution you propose, the signal seen by the Bose stereo would be:
L - 0 = L
(because you connect L+ to L+ and GND to L-)
With the CD changer (and the solution I propose, and any other differential source) you get:
L - (-L) = 2 x L
-----
I started by connecting my audio wires to a female 1/8" TRS jack. I took a head phone cable extender and cut off the male end leaving the wire with the female end for connecting my audio source. The sound was too quiet because there were only three wires L+, R+, and ground which was split for L- and R-. The sound was terrible.
I then switched to using a TRS that split into two RCA connections. I connected L+ (A) and L- (E) to one RCA and R+ (B) and R- (F) to the other. The sound was much louder, not quite to the full volume of the FM radio but close.
I reassembled and everything is working great. I hope this helps someone and is clear enough. I'm basically summarizing what everyone else has already said.

Makes sense. But your radio 97/98 models are really easy to do. I've had a 98 unit but started having problems with it.
The cd was starting to have problems reading cds (even after i cleaned it).
The tape player started having spasms.
The the hu seemed to confuse the bose or send the wrong signals.
Example : a few minutes of use the interior speakers would go out and only the bose sub would work.
Or the left rear and sub would work or the right front and sub would work or not have a sub at all.
Or the display would go out
