I went to the track with turdz and here are my times.

My best run:

reaction: 0.769
sixty foot: 2.396
330: 6.465
1/8: 9.808
1/8 mph: 73.661
1000: 12.648
1/4: 15.057
E.T.: 94.582

I am disappointed that I didn't hit 14's. Is there any pointers that anyone can give me to reach my goal? My mods are warpspeed ypipe, greddy catback, pop intake. I had the spare and jack out. Fuel was at 1/4 of a tank. I had 15 inch gxe steelies with bridgestone re92 tires and I had heavy 17's in the back? What times is my car capable of?

Thanks

your 60 ft time is what is in need of work. Those need to be in the 2.2x range. Your trap speed is good, which means your car is making power, you are just having trouble coming off the line. With that trap and a good launch, you could be around the 14.6 e.t. area.

It also depends on what type of mods you have. Also, those rims look heavy.

My mods are

warpspeed ypipe
greddy sp catback
pop intake

I agree, my 17's are heavy but they were on the back. I change the fronts to 15 inch gxe steelies. I was launching at 2k and I got wheelhop, then I switch to a 1500 rpm and I got that time. What rpm do u guys launch at? Also when u shift from 1-2, what rpm do u guys land at?

I found my 96 didn't mind a little wheel hop. I was cutting 2.25-2.27 with 3-4 "hop". My launch was at 2500-2700 rpm, anything less would bog. This was on the stock SE stealies.

Good luck.

Like was said earlier, your 60 is kinda weak. Also try to speed up your shifts. Even with your 2.39 60' and your trap speed, you could pull a 14.6 is you are a really quick shifter.

Yeah, I really need to work on my shifting and launching... I suck. During the 1-2 shift, what rpm do u land at? I usually land at 4,5k. Is that too slow or the norm?

Thanks

Like everyone has said, it's all in your 60' time. I've made about 35 runs at the track and I've become very consistant now with my 60's. What works for me is to launch at 3K and FEATHER the clutch. I always get 2.2x, with a best of 2.13. Track conditions will play an important role also. It is harder on the clutch, but that's the price you pay. I've also tried many shift points, and what works best for me is all red-line shifts and holding third at the end.
It' just takes lot's of practice to get it right.

Have fun!

Also do u guys shift into 4th? During all the runs, I winded out 3rd. Is that the best way or should I be shifting into 4th when I hit 6k.

MOST people use the shift points of redline, 6300, 6000, and finish in 4th gear. Some people, like the guy who posted above, wind it all the way out to redline in each gear. Looking at the dynos, the shift points I list *should* produce better results, since our power drops off bigtime the closer you get to redline, but different techniques work for different people.

I dont know what RPM I land at going into 2nd. I'm spinning well into 2nd gear so I cant really tell. Why do you ask?

I ask because I get the idea coming from friends who drive cars that have lift, like vvti-l and ivtec. They have to land at their respected rpm during the shift to stay in lift. I know we don't have lift but I thought the general idea would apply. Therefore, what rpm should I land at each shift to gauge how faster I should be shifting. If you can tell me what rpm you land at during each shift, I can have a general idea and act accordling I hope I explain it sorta clearly to you to why I ask that question.

There's nothing you can do about what RPM you enter the next gear at. If you shift at a given rpm A, you will automatically enter the next gear at RPM B. RPM B is dictated by your gear ratio and whenever you decide to shift (RPM A). You cant change that unless you start messing with your gear ratios.

The reason your friends with VVT-i and VTEC and all those other variable cam cars have to worry about it is because they need to stay on the big cam lobes to make any sort of power. We don't have to worry about stuff like that, we don't have variable cams so there's no huge power surge like in a VVTi or VTEC motor.

What I'm saying is, if both you and I shift out of 1st gear at the same time, we will land it 2nd gear at the exact same spot. You can't do anything about that.

Ok, so when I shift out of 1 into 2 at 6500 rpm, I usually land at 4500 rpm. What rpm do you land at? I know that different cars have different setups and different rpm calibrations. Since I shift slow, I hope to get your indicated 1-2 shifting at 6500 landing and gauge how much slower I am shifting. Unless it doesn't matter how slow we shift and no matter what, if we shift from 6500, we will always land at 4500 rpm.

The RPM you will land at is dictated solely by the car's gear ratio, nothing else. If 4500 is where you land at, that's where I land at too... I've just never looked. How quickly you shift has nothing to do with it.

I see. Thanks for the clarification.

That's not to say how quickly you shift doesn't affect your 1/4 mile, it does of course, but it wont affect the RPM you land at. UNLESS you shift SOOOOO slowly that your car actually starts to slow down before you get it into the next gear, but I'm sure you don't shift that slowly

if that's the case, i say it would be recommended to find the maxima's strongest gear (depending on mods) and exploit it. For example, i feel a lot of power in 2nd and 3rd. So I would say it would be best to stay in those gears the longest meaning we should shift out of 1st around 4 to 5 instead of at 6 and higher. and redline both 2nd and 3rd or 3rd is stronger than 2nd, do teh same for 2nd since when u redline one gear you already half way done with the next. Is this a logical way of doing it?

No, what gear you are in does not affect the amount of HP your car is making. Shifting out of 1st early like you are thinking would destroy your times. Running 2nd and 3rd to redline would also hurt them. I bet you would run almost a full second slower if you shift out of 1st early and keep it in 2nd and 3rd til redline, probably lose about 5mph in the traps too.

dude, you might be on to something. I have a thread on my times too, I set up a table of all of the numbers and everything. Could you take a look?

Dave B also replied in my thread. Could it be possible I was shifting out of gear too early on each shift? It was my first time and I was pretty excited. My heart always started to pound right as I was lining up for the lights.

I found that shifting at redline in 1st, 2nd, and then in 3rd going into 4th I would shift right about 6,100-6,200, usually closer to the 6,100 for best results.

I also launched at about 3K for my best 60 ft times.
