I Knew I Shouldn't Have Gone...

@#$&#$%#$%

Story of the night:
Of the four runs, I red-lighted twice. I ran .5-.6 seconds slower than my best time (15.58 from last Fall) with 84-85mph top speed (87.5mph was my avg all of last yr). I lost my mojo

Only things different on my car this year are:
Lighter wheels (17lb rims vs. 23lb rims)
PR CAI (instead of Stillen Intake)
Less than half a tank (instead of my usual 1/4 tank of gas). Car weighed 3270lbs.
60K tune-up (new OE NGK plugs, belts, fuel filter yada yada)

FYI: It was 72 degrees tonite, 72-77% humidity.

I may be going out on the limb here, will switching to hybrid intake setup, run with 1/4 tank of gas on a cool/dry October day improve significantly?(I Hope so) Or are my troubles beyond these adjustments? With all things considered, IMO I should be running low 15s (not being conceided here).

thanks for reading. just needed to vent.

cooler weather and less gas will DEFINITELY help you down the 1/4....

remember...the quickest maximas all run pop or hybrid intakes...

You are a 5spd right maxgurl? There is no reason you shouldn't be running at least low 15's in that wheather, all I can think of is possible ECU codes or an intake or exhaust leak.

Took my lower CAI piping out today, did the hybrid deal. Much better. Problem one solved. I'll check the ecu, possibly tomorrow. Tks Lime

Correct me if I'm getting this wrong, but you didn't know your KS was bad (b/c you didn't get CEL)?

It's a dormant sensor (so to speak) it does not set off your CEL. Thats what makes it so sneaky. Little bugger i have to change mine also. Brian

I was at the track lastnight with my new CAI
and i ran the same and alittle slower too

So i'm converting back to Hybrid and running next weekend and am going to see what happens
except i'm taking tools with me so i can go back to CAI if i run worse.

I'm intrested in your results to Ange

The night i got my CAI we had problems putting it in so i left it as a Hybrid and it killed my lowend BAD. my car was bogging off the line and would just slug till about 3500 rpms then slam you into the seat and scoot off. When we went back and put the lower pipe on i got my lowend back like a champ but i noticed it didn't pull as hard up top. But lasnight when leaving the track it was cold as hell and it was pulling like crazy in the top. I don't know what the deal is
like Jekyl and Hyde.

CAI

I have never heard of a cai slowing you down. Besides before you had a warm air intake(stillen). Place racing is a cold air version. I think there is something else wrong. Most likely it is the weather. It can make a huge difference.

I just did the plugs(ngk oem) and fuel filter and it helped. Maybe you just need to get the car tuned in. My 96 gxe auto is stock except for a pulley. I ran a 16.1 at 85mph which is about average for the year. I did the tune up after and just ordered the cai and y pipe.

This is new to me. I am used to having race cars. I had 2 5.0 stangs and an 87 grand national. Ran 12.8@103mph with stock turbo, intake and heads. 1.7 60 foot times on street tires. I hope this helps.

the cai designed for our cars is known to have a little too long tubing (i worded that funny) so the hybrid setup is generally better at the track. i couldn't trap better than 91mph one night at the track then i switched back to hybrid and trapped 92-93 the rest of the night

Trevor

p.s. i love GNs.

I miss my GN. I will get another someday. For now my goal is to get the maxima into the low 14's, which I will do by the end of next summer. I will get it tuned in. I think I am good at it. I just did a tune up. All the parts were original!!The fuel filter had black crap in it and the plugs were all corroded. Next is a y pipe/intake combo.
